The City of Richmond is hoping a decade-long battle may be nearing an end as guilty pleas are expected from a local towing company facing a raft of municipal bylaw charges, a city spokesman says.
A total of 15 charges — many to do with aggressive towing practices — have been laid against Paul's Towing, also known as City Wide Towing, said Richmond spokesman Ted Townsend.
"We believe this towing company has overstepped the boundaries and so we've taken this action," Townsend said.
The company's owners are accused of overcharging, improper towing, damaging a towed vehicle and even towing a vehicle with someone still in it.
The alleged offences were committed between 2002 and 2009.
If the company does plead guilty, the penalties would likely come in the form of fines, said Townsend.
"We've got other options which could include a suspension or even pulling their business license," he said. "All those tools are available to us, but our first primary is to try and get people into compliance of the bylaw."

I wonder why CBC won't allow overseas Canadians to view their content. You'd think that of all people, we're the ones they should be catering to a bit with their online site. All they'd need to do is require membership to view, with membership requiring a Canadian address...

The only proxy I would trust is one I set up myself, and I don't have that...
It's bullshit how those people got towed illegally by the company because they're pleading guilty but still has no way of getting their money back.

One time I was parked in a time limit stall, and when I was returning to my vehicle, the tow guy had my front wheel in position to lift off the ground. He demanded I pay $90, and he took my mastercard. Was he allowed to ask for money even though my car was still there?>

Someone should get a F350 w/ 7.3 powerstroker and do what the captain picard's video did. Then go 100km/h on the highway :troll:

revscene has a pretty bad drooling problem with regards to females. the site would crash from the sudden influx of new users as soon as people find out a chick is a member of these forums

Cause everybody here secretly knows about Rules 1 and 2.
I find that amusing.
not with our current back bone.
2 years ago, yes, it would have been like an asian handling a gun fight with a knife.
now... ehhh... we went over kill =)
there is so much beefing up of servers, networks, hardware, software, moderators, all in the past couple of years which is why you see me start going ape shit when anyone starts talking shit about what we rs staff have "not" been doing...

Ugh I hate these tow truck guys and ticket officers...they seem to collaborate with each other...I was parked on Willingdon right beside Crystal mall. Paid the meter for 1 hr parking to eat at a restaurant. When I came out, there was a Burnaby ticket officer and a tow truck driver chatting in front of my car. The tow truck driver was setting up his lifts while chatting with the ticket officer. My car was the only one left but I check the meter and I still had 8 minutes left. So, I go in my car and started it up...the tow truck driver and the ticket officer got in their vehicles and drove off.
They were just waiting to give me a ticket and tow my car...how ridiculous is that?

if it was one of those only pay parking from x time - x time then yeah. im all for them waiting to tow the car away.
I HATE those people that leave there cars in a place that theres no parking allowed at the certain time, like on knight street...
Good thing they didn't scroll past TypeRnammer and his avatar lulz.
Just realized that I went to high school with that reporter. Doesn't suprise me that she became a reporter. Would NOT stfu in law class
