: Lighting equipment stolen

Hi guys! I posted this already on the off topic but decided to also try my luck here.

So last night (April 8th @8pm) my parents car got broken into and all my lighting equipment was stolen from Richmond Center Mall. They didn't grab the extra's like my tripod or other equipment but luckily the laptop/camera/lenses were with me at the time as those never leave my side. A few cars in the same area were also broken into so I wasn't a target.

I've wrote up a quick list of each item and serial #. If you're on CL shopping for lighting gear, please keep an eye out!

The Polics and RCMP have been contacted already. Richmond Center does have footage to identify the suspects.

Thanks!

How much of a deductible do you have to pay?

ouch..

Don't lose hope! My car got broken into before as well. I reported it to the RCMP and they ended up catching the guy who broke into my car. I ended up getting all my audio equipment back.

It's a good thing you keep track of all serial numbers!

Senna:

I don't think car insurance will cover stolen goods as they're not physically attached to the vehicle... he'll probably have to make a claim through house insurance?

Tom probably has insurance for his wedding business, most venues require it. Hopefully he's got equipment theft/damage on there as well.

I meant business insurance, not car insurance. You can get business insurance discounts through the PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada) by being a member.

Most of Tom's stolen items is grip equipment which does not have serial numbers, unfortunately.

Sorry if I dug this thread up, but you don't often here of solutions like this, I was just curious, how much time passed from the robbery to your reporting it WITH SERIAL NUMBERS, to THEN him being caught?

Don't remember how long it was exactly, but it was over a month. I'd already replaced the stolen stuff so whatever was returned to me was kinda useless.. good to know they caught the perp though.

I guess i was lucky?

i'm not sure if u've been reimbursed by insurance at all, but don't you have to inform the insurance company that your stuff was returned to you?

Not sure about that, but my car insurance didnt cover anything that was stolen. I just paid the glass deductible to replace the broken window.
