I have an NTSC PS2 and i was going to send it to India with my dad to give away. Will it work on their TV? Does it even matter on newer TVs?
It has a mod chip and most of the games are burned if that matters.

If it has a modchip - yes it should work, that is, if the modchip supports switching of colour modes (which many do)

Reading PAL discs and outputting a PAL signal are 2 different things. Japan is NTSC.

You can get NTSC to PAL converters.

how do i go about switching the colour mode? It doesnt appear under the setting on my ps2. Closest thing i see is the aspect ratio.
i looked up converters and the ones i saw were like $200 so not really worth it for a PS2.
Also i could very well be wrong about this, but from what i read from googling this is that newer tvs can accept either signal NTSC or PAL, does anyone have any idea about this?

^ it really depends on which mod chip you have - my old old one for my 1st ps2 (i forgot which one i had sorry) required me to turn the PS3 off completely, and then hold the eject button while pressing the power button to get into the modchip menu
The newer chip I got (Magic something or the other) for my 2nd ps2 did automatic boot settings.

Would using component video eliminate the need for worrying about PAL or NTSC?

^ no it would not... component cable do not convert signals unfortunately =.=

Even if you get a converter, the picture would come out differently. It's been a while, but IIRC, the picture for PAL content is a little more stretched out or taller?
