Ever had a cough as a kid which resulted to being banned to have any sweets during the time being? ESPECIALLY chocolates?

Well new research shows that it may be an effective cough suppressant, too.

An ingredient in chocolate may actually be a more effective cough medicine than traditional remedies, a new study suggests.

And not only that, the UK-based research showed that the cocoa-derived compound had none of the side effects associated with standard drug treatments for persistent coughs.

"These sorts of coughs, often lasting for weeks after a viral infection, can be difficult to treat, especially since it is not possible to give large doses of opiate-based medication to patients due to the side effects," says Peter Barnes, professor of thoracic medicine at Imperial College London, UK, who led the study.

In the study, the testers were given theobromine, a component of chocolate, codeine, or a placebo. Those who had the theobromine were less likely to cough than those who received the placebo, and even those who received codeine who coughed at the same rate as the placebo.

So the next time you have one of those nagging coughs you can't seem to shake, chocolate may be the answer.Of course, getting the weight off afterward is another issue.

when ive got a cough for a bad throat things like milk, chocolate, etc anything that coats the inside of my mouth

makes things a lot worse; it just compounds the issue (cough drops give me a sore throat too)


i prefer acidic / bubbly drinks/food so that my throat gets cleared etc

Just so you know, none of the cough preparations actually work so it's not hard to say a treatment is better than something that is useless.

Since we're on the topic of chocolates, every time I go to Burnaby Recycling Depot on Still Creek or to the Lordco there, I check out the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory across the street. Get free samples of their pretty damn good chocolates. I went there yesterday and wow, there was this really pretty receptionist there. She was so hot she would make a gay guy go straight. Not only was she pretty, the rest of her was mmmmmmm, mmmmmm good. She was wearing skin tight something. Free chocolate, nice eye candy, wow. I should have ordered a single scoop of ice cream just to see her bend over and scoop, LOLOLOLOLOL..........

BTW, I go there to buy NSA seconds for my mother-in-law who cannot have sugar. Half of the time they are out of stock, so I check it out at least once a month. A cute white chick used to work there, but she is now gone. I'm kind of liking the replacement. Kudos to the guy who does the hiring.......... my kind of guy.
