I have to disagree with your analogy. As a parent you have an OBLIGATION to support your child, no matter how good or bad they perform in their endeavors. A child needs support and guidance.

It's completely different from a professional NHL team. These are not children who need our support to perform. These are grown men earning millions. It's their JOB to play well and earn the support and respect of their fans. It's their job to represent their city well.

I am a fan of any athlete that develops their game to perfection. If I am disappointed repeatedly by their performance, they are going to lose me as a fan and supporter. I don't expect anyone to be a fan of me unless I have proven myself first, and then I expect that I have to continue to perform at that level if I want to keep them as a fan. If I start to suck at my game, I would never hold it against anyone to stop supporting me.

In my view, those that are diehard team fans who spend thousands on game tickets and team wear are simply hockey fans and that's their hobby and favorite thing to do. Nothing wrong with that. However I don't agree that all fans have to have that same insane level of dedication to their team.

I do agree that there are different kinds of bandwagon jumpers though. There are those that put on a Jersey just to fit in with the crowd, and don't even watch a single game, and cheer or boo based on ONE game. I agree that's way worse than a fan who bases his support on the team's performance over a season.

The canucks didn't show up to the last game, plain and simple. When a president's trophy winning team gets shit-kicked and embarrassed in the playoffs, *Especially* against Chicago, people have every right to be upset. If that was a home game, I'd say the crowd at GM place should have the right to a refund.

I wouldn't have minded a 3-2 loss, or a 4-1 loss provided they showed effort, but a 7-2 loss with FOUR of those goals in the 2nd period? That was just disgraceful.


BTW I've been a Canucks fan since I can remember watching hockey. No I don't watch every game, No I don't own a jersey, but I have NEVER, EVER cheered for another team in the NHL.
