Gas Prices

Gas tonight hit $1.408/L. Damn, I can already see this is going to be one expensive summer. Just like in 2007 when gas went over $1.50/L.
What is your method to save gas money? Or will you just get anal raped by the rising gas prices? Filling up in the states? Ie at Point Roberts?
For me, I am really considering monthly bus passes for the summer......$81 for a one zone pass for a month is substantially less than one fill up for me. I assume so for many many many other out there too.
Only thing I really look forward to now is the UPass for BCIT! (and other colleges too)

One of the methods that I have been using to save fuel is have minimum engine warmup before setting off. Yes, it has its drawbacks, but then I don't go beyond 2500rpm before the engine has fully warmed up.
I still see people idling for 3-5mins, I wouldn't say this practice would help your fuel economy.

I turn off my car when I'm sitting in the timmy's line-up and wait until it's my turn to pull to the speaker to start it and pull forward, saves a couple minutes worth of idling.

Gas price goes up and down. It doesn't affect too much unless you make minimum pay and drive a SUV. My car costs extra $60-70 more a month than when it was at $1.1, people can live with it.
I'm more pissed that house rent has gone up to an unaffordable level, but salary stays pretty much the same.

$60 - $70 more a MONTH is still a lot of money... that's $720 - $840 a year.
For me, I just suck it up and pay the higher prices and don't complain. Nobody says I have to drive a non-economical car... that's my choice. You know what they say, you gotta pay to play. Plus I feel better when I pull up to the pump after a big SUV just drove away and see $150+ on their pump :woot2:

Do I complain about the gas prices? Sure, but not that loudly.
A guy at work has a new F150 and his fill ups are wallet crushing. It's unreal. It's sad when my monthly gas bill for BOTH my cars, are what he pays for one and a half fill ups! And I'm using 91 for one car, 94 for the other.
I do wonder how close it will get to $2 a L :(

Read that the US is talking about some deal about oil sands and importing it from Canada. Maybe that will help us a little idk. But yea gas is hitting up pretty damn high and I only use the car to go out to places like with friends and I have to fill up about after a week. I also bus to school too now most of times if I can just to save that extra $5 or so going to to van from richmond and back

There is no comparison there, you have to realize people can live without a car in HK and the major majority do because their public transit system actually works well and works with people.
Here we have piece of shit translink system where takes 45 min per bus and are always late which fucks people up all the time.

i made some adjustments myself... as a trial for May.. no driving to work..instead..invested in a 3zone translink pass and let them do the driving.
I can give up the nice car (although i'm quite content with the TL's mileage of, on average, 525-550km to tank of premium)...and settle for a civic 5spd manual which gets about 625km to a full tank of regular gas...but i'm not going to.
just gotta make some lifestyle adjustments i guess...for the interim... and yes, WOW renewal definitely!

the bubble bursted for crude oil. Its now below 100 dollars per barrel and with oversupply in the market of oil. Numbers are showing lower demand for gas in US and gas prices will trickle down slowly. It seems that they're expecting a 50cent drop in gas per gallon by the end of summer.

Oil pricing wise, Money CNN has commodities pricing chart. Silver also tanked hard along, Gold not so bad, others tanked a bit.
We also have USD being rallied and getting its value bumped back up. Gotta remember that Oil and commodities are also traded in USD.
finance.google.com = good place to look for market stuff anyhow.
http://community.nasdaq.com/News/2011-05/sector-update-energy-shares-lower-as-oil-futures-plunge-on-demand-concerns.aspx?storyid=74488
Nonetheless, commodities market is purely speculation. Oil prices were driven high due to speculation of emerging markets like China with oil consumption, along with a low valued USD. Tanking of USD usually drives commodities pricing too (uncertainty in currency= people buy gold)
Despite the emerging markets, the reports of US consumption of gas going down because of high gas prices has driven speculation that demand will fall (thus we see the bubble burst). We also need to take note that oil trading is via inventory and reselling them later on at higher prices. Theres oversupply, not enough demand thus again a reason for bubble burst.
"On the demand side, gasoline demand in the U.S. has been on a steady decline since last August, and dropped another 2.2% in the week ended April 29 to 8.94 million barrels a day, according to the U.S. EIA data. On a four-week average, gasoline consumption was 1.9% lower than a year earlier."

comex markets are all based on speculation. regardless of what numbers say.
the recent drop in sil. gold and oil could be credited to changes in regulation withing the comex trading (mainly to drive out speculators). but this could change anytime.
now a days prices on comex markets dont reflect real world numbers but more reflect speculations.

Yup. 1 god damn day of $1.34 and back up to $1.39 SHIT!

All those blogs hopefully will keep speculating. The US has been consuming less and less gas, hopefully bringing prices down, I don't need it to hit below $1, but paying over $1.50 for 91 right now is stupid, pay to play but still, greedy asshats.
I figure as long as people keep speculating for a drop, and people start to hold out for said speculation drop, it will eventually come if people start holding out. Nobody buys gas=companies dont make money. I know I don't boost very often at all anymore, just to save that extra gas to last 1 more day of DD'ing.

I've seen this before. Yet you have to understand, the economies there in Europe are way more stable then here.. Price of living, there is actually reasonable. Here, you make pennys and are expected to pay millions for shit. (If that makes any sense)
The cost of living in Vancouver is just ridiculous and gas prices don't help, fucking inflation out the ass.

Price of crude has NOTHING to do with the price at the pump you fucking newb. Look at how the price of crude has moved in the past 5 years and see if u see how you can possibly match that with the pump.
cost of crude oil went down 15%, eastern canada already dropped 6 cents
western canada will change too, so expect a 6 cent drop

Sure it does. When Crude goes up, gas prices go up. When crude goes down, gas prices don't go up as fast, usually.

Its funny how nowadays we think 128.x is CHEAP
I still remember when it was below 1.20, and before I was even able to drive years and years ago less than .80
I know we can do this all day but when I was a kid, in the early 80's, there were times when gas was actually cheaper than propane at $0.21/L. The other huge price drop in fuel was when ARCO came to town, sometime in the 90's IIRC. Prices dropped to under $0.45/L and diesel was under $0.30/L. Man, I miss those days.
