My theory, just MS way to grab proprietary conferencing technology to help bolster their own telecommuncations business, perhaps paving the way for better skype intergration in their windows 7 phones/Operating systems.
Just hope to god it doesn't become a pay service for individual users :S..

More than likely the big reason they bought it is for the user base and brand recognition, not for the technology. MS could have developed it's own version if Skype, but who would use it when Skype already works for them?

google and facebook was the other 2 big contender in purchasing skype
had facebook bought skype, their stocks would have soared soo high
