I'm looking to buy a car possibly in two weeks or so. First off I have a $4000 to maybe $7000 budget.

It'll mostly be used to get to point A to B and possibly road trips. I work at Kits and live in Surrey so I would need something fuel efficient.

Also looking for something with some speed at least.
Cars i've been looking at so far :

Honda Civic Si
Acura Integra
Acura RSX (hopefully Type-s)
Toyota Celica
Honda Prelude

Any other suggestion or which one on the list would be best for what i'm looking for.
Aaand anyone wanna teach me how to drive stick shift? Kcool. Haha :D

Don't think $7000 could get you a good RSX-S.

$7000 could get you a late Integra GS-R.

Get a Suzuki swift.. :P

Was my first car and was a great A to B car.. Cheap on gas $30 full tank..

You could beat on it all you want and it will still run good.. Plus you can redline it all day and not pass the speed limit...

get a mk1 or mk2 turbo sprint / firefly

I was hoping to get a car that can seat 4+ people.

Which one would be the most fuel efficient and would have speed at the same time?

You know, you could do your own research and come up with your own personal decision? I can guarantee you'll get more info that way than by asking people on here.

Which one would be the most fuel efficient and would have speed at the same time?

What's "speed". Define what you expect from that. You're asking a lot to have a "fast" car at that price. You could get a Volvo 850r.

Is this...the new jtang84? :lol

Anyway, scrap the RSX-S. You'll have to pay at least double for one.

Celica - you can't seat 4 passengers comfortably. Prelude - Maybe.

Integra/Civic is your best bet.

by speed i mean fast. Not hella fast but faster than your regular cars and such.

I guess what's left on the list is the Integra and Prelude. I'll just get which ever one I find cheaper for the money and the one with better gas milage.

jjson
05-11-2011, 08:10 PM
prelude burns oil like a bitch. my buddy has one. So like I said before get an integra GSR, sure it's no Type R but it'll be peppy aand sporty enough for your daily commute. Take your time to find a good one on craigs or RS.

You're on a tight budget eh?

Nothing wrong with that, but keep your expectations realistic... and don't forget to budget for gas and insurance. If $7k is going to tear gaping holes in your wallet, what will you do if you need new tires or just need to maintain the damn thing?

Just stuff to keep in mind.

I agree with jjson

I used to own a 95 integra. Pretty good car cuz it's not too slow and it's fuel efficient.
Make sure you get A/C...unless you're a windows down guy from kits to surrey.

As a current RSX-S owner, you like the Integra better :)

The FTO's 2.0L V6 (197hp) was legendary, but it was also rather unpopular.

$7000 can go a long way. I got my 01 A4 Quattro fopr $7000..

Add a $300 chip, and I've got a "family sedan" that can really go.

I think the OP needs to include maintainence budget in his original $7000. He cannot spent another $7000 just to keep his car running properly :D

have to be Japanese? 96 to 99 VW gti vr6 or jetta vr6 would fit the bill. Or like 2000+ jetta or golf 2.0. Also early e36 325is can be had in decent shape for around 5k, and they are super fun to drive.

What do you mean i should include the maintainance? *i'm a her btw.

No it doesnt have to be japanese. Those are the only ones i've found but i'm open to suggestions. I'd love to have a european car to be honest but i didnt think i could get one in my budget.

What I mentioned are all around 5-6k. If you have 7000 you are willing to spend total, shoot to spend 5k they you have 2k left if anything comes up. Things are bound to break on any car, and its always nice to have the money around waiting for when it happens so your car doesn't end up sitting in your driveway for a month.

I have money on the side for maintenance and also have money for the gas and insurance all worked out. So $7000 is my budget for just the car.

Go to craigslist, put your maximum amount at $8000. Pick out cars you like, GOOGLE the cars. Find out what sort of quirks they have. Go test drive the car. Then make your own decision.

mazda mx3, mx6, or mx5.

my first car was an mx3 v6. for a small car, it was pretty peppy. hella reliable and good on gas too.

with your budget, maybe look into a 2000 mx5. plus you can get away with it since you are a girl.

Two not-so-bad cars within your budget. The Impreza ought to be solid and a good choice.

If you found an 04 STi in your budget chances are it's crashed or rebuilt or stolen or... heavily abused. It's probably iffy.

I would not touch a $7000 STi...

MK4 GTI 1.8T has a bit of go as well. Not as much as the VR, but it should be a bit easier on gas.

i can attest to that. and the mileage is not bad. but you'd have to use premium (91+) gas. and with regular at 1.40-ish? now, i can only imagine what premium costs right now.

i would still go for the civic/integra though. everything is just cheaper that way.

you need to post a picture of yourself so that we can list some cars that would be suitable for you.

if you are cute, you wouldn't want us to recommend mustangs or whatever to you.

if you are tall, you wouldn't want us to recommend mazda miata.

Thanks. Well I was thinking of just crossing the border for gas since I don't live too far from it and it's significantly lower in there.

Mentioning I was a girl was bad enough, a picture would probably be even worse.

PS: I actually do like Mustangs.
PPS: I'm 5"1. Far from being tall.

Well then, a 1.8T, to me anyway, is a good balance between power and gas mileage. A civic/integra would be a better commuter in terms of gas mileage. Trouble is finding a lower mileage 1.8T. Just be aware that any parts needed for the VW would be a bit higher than Japanese cars.

Thanks everyone for the input. I've decided to go with an Integra GSR or a Civic SiR. Hopefully, I'll find one on here or craigslist that runs well, in good condition and in my budget.

I've lowered my budget to $5500

If anyone is selling one, hit me up.
