i have a set of coilovers (55lbs worth) that i have a buyer for, but he is from australia(!).
ups is the only place i've dealt with for shipping, and they wanted a stupendous amount to deliver it... has anyone done something similar, ie. shipped parts to an overseas destination, at a decent rate?

If you can, cross the border and use USPS. I shipped something to Australia last year and was in the same situation as you. The cheapest from Canada to Australia was $700. From USPS, it was only $250 or so.
