I am working on finalizing dedicated apps for both Iphone (and Ipod touch and Ipad) and Android mobile devices. These apps will give full access to forums, including control panel, private messaging, etc, etc.

I wanted this to be a big surprise. There are several ways to go about this though, and I wanted to ask you guys first.

To be able to submit apps, you need to have accounts with both Apple ($99 per year) and Google ($25 one time fee)

Basically:

If the app were to cost $0.99 for the itunes version, would you be interested? Or is the only way you would use it if it was free? How about ads?

I've also seen apps out there for vBulletin forums. Some work right out of the box and some require a plug-in to be installed. Just curious as to whether RS has looked into installing a plug-in to allow existing apps to work (like Tapatalk)?

I doubt we'd be able to include addons like thanks/fail and the chatbox. Everything else would be there, including avatars, posting photos, changing settings, etc. The interface is adapted for mobile more than the mobile site is (things are re-arranged, not just shrunk down)

I really like the apps and want to use them. I think the best way might be to have free and paid versions.

Seriously. For what RS offers $0.99 is a bargain. I was fully expecting everyone to chip in and say yes to paying for an app and was surprised how many chose otherwise. This is beyond being cheap. -Better usage of screen real estate on a mobile device since the app caters to the iPhone

-Ability to show avatars
-Text wraps correctly
-Full screen ability (Safari on iPhone is quite limiting on RS mobile)

Just use a browser that identifies itself as a desktop version. It will eat up more of your 3G bandwidth (avatars,banners,ads) but basically you can work with the forums as if you are on your pc/mac.

The only issues seem to occur when there are a lot of thumbnails on the site, but that seem isolated to only facebook.

Only a few issues:
Forum button on home screen does not work, have to use the menu button to access the forums
Smilies don't show up in the text as icons, yet that's a very minor issue

1. Unread post actually takes you to the last unread post. Instead it takes you to the last page of unread posts.

2. Clicking on the page # at the top does not take you to that page.

Long threads are difficult to read cause I often have to do a lot of scrolling to get to the end. Regardless I'll still use the app over the mobile site, its far better. :thumbsup:

Nope custom rom on android 2.3.4.

In the 'send to' box I was only able to choose GT-I9000 (my old SGS which I already sold), and the GT-I9100 is greyed out and says incompatible which I find weird.

I made the purchase anyway just to see and sure enough I'm not getting anything on my SGS2.

I'm not worried about the money or anything since buying it means I can download any time I want once I figure out the problem.

I don't have issues with other apps. I bought cut the rope recently and it was sent to my SGS2 with no problems:

You are correct! That helps navigate threads much better! :thumbsup:

My friend who has the SGS2 has the same problem as me and is on a custom rom. In the SGS2 thread one person responded with the same problem.

Surprisingly, they actually refunded my money for the failed download/sending to my phone so send me a payment request through paypal to my email or something.

It would be great to be able to save different subforums as favourites so we can quickly jump to the ones we read most often. The subscribe button works for threads only, not actual forums. I have VOT subscribed but it doesn't appear in my list (probably because it's a forum not a thread).



Another suggestion is to have each page of a thread show up as a separate page instead of one long page divided up into different sections each representing a page.


Finally, I think we should separate the stickies from regular posts. Perhaps tag them with the word STICKY or better yet, have them in a section up top separate from regular threads below or put them in a separate tab (sorta like the XDA app). It's sometimes annoying to have to scroll through and figure out where the stickied threads end and where regular threads begin.


The issues listed below have already been mentioned I believe but don't think it hurts to mention again:
-youtube links don't link/embed properly
-subforums have formatting issues with <b> </b> <BR> appearing all over the place
-smilies show up as texts instead of icons
-quoted text border doesn't show up properly unless you actually click on the individual post
-signatures (which only show up when you click on the person's post as I'm sure you intended) begin immediately after the person's post so it looks like it's part of their actual post.

Sounds like a bust. RS shouldn't have created its own app and can't deliver the most basic set of features.
