In hilarious and rather implausible scenes this afternoon, Barack Obama's Cadillac-badged limousine beached itself on a speed bump as it tried to leave the American Embassy in Dublin.

It's not known if Obama was actually inside ‘Cadillac One' - a GMC Topkick-based armored car that's fitted with highly classified defence tech - but it was grounded for several minutes while the secret service heaved it off the bump.

Barack and the First Lady left security officials hiding the beefed-up ‘Lac, nicknamed ‘The Beast', from view and found a different exit

I`m still not exactly sure what happened ?

It got stuck on a speed bump???
Or did the embassy have those reverse spikes that popped the tires??

thats not "the beast" that's taller than the average person. Its probably one of the older dts limos

Haha people saying that the Limo's Hi-Tech Defense system kicked in causing wheels to lock up.

Seeing this had me wondering a few things.
Why would the wheels recess into the wheel wells like that? Did the car react as if an explosion or intrusion occurred under the vehicle and went into a defensive mode? Was it drawing in the wheels like a turtle would draw in its limbs to protect against further attacks? The only thing I could come up with is that wheels in a wheel well create gaps and closing those gaps a little might increase the defensive barrier around the interior. If so, then why did the rear wheels not do the same? When I showed the video to a buddy he thought it would be better to keep the vehicle drivable so they could escape further attacks, if it was a defense mechanism.

Don't think it's that complicated. Vehicle just got hung up on the dip. Heavy load = low ground clearance plus long wheelbase and a curb equals FAIL.

You'd think it's something that would have happened before at that location. Then again, maybe not. Not sure if any motorcade gas visited Dublin recently with a vehicle like that; not even the Queen I would imagine.

It's not because it's a low car. It's up on that speed bump because it's a limo and too goddamn long.

Design flaw on the part of whoever built this place. He should've figured that lots of armored limos would be coming in and out.

if I was the driver I'd tell the president to hang on and dukes of hazard it upon seeing the potential car stuck hump lol

From the news here in the UK, it would appear that for whatever reason the front suspension simply collapsed.

you think too much.

seems like the weight of the car made the front suspension blow up.

front suspension was probably made by an american car company.

I bet they will be installing lambo style lifts now on all the limos.

Well it's not the current presidential car as most morons in the media have chosen to report. It's pretty obvious to anyone who has a clue about cars.

Looks like the 05 model Bush used to roll around in. There has been an 09 caddy in use for more than 2 years now.

That said; still a pretty pathetic display. The 09 model does seem to have a significantly higher ground clearance tho; as it's based on a truck chassis, and probably wouldn't have had a problem with that exit.

This one was probably carrying around the help, and the president was likely somewhere else altogether.

It does looks like a suspension failure (possibly metal fatigue). Can't see that being a defense mechanism?

Talk about embarrassing. :lol
