I have to go to the Vancouver Court House/Law Courts tomorrow for Jury Duty selection (hoping to be excused because I work for myself)... I heard that selection can take hours and hours and I was thinking about taking my laptop...
Does anyone know if I can pick up a wireless signal there? Has anyone had to do this before? Any word on how long it takes? Should I bring a lunch? Can I leave for a cigarette at all?
Pretty sure if you do get a signal you won't be able to get through security with a laptop, so you'll have to use it outside the building. Last I recall you have to check in everything (wallet, keys, cell phone etc)
yep. all electronic devices are seized, bagged and returned upon leaving the checkpoint gates. Better to just leave everything at home.

ive done jury duty twice before in the past...it's a pain in the ass... u sit there forever then u dont get picked...and u have to come back the next day to see if u get picked for a trail of some sort... but yeah only time u can leave is during breaks...
damn, waiting around all day with no smartphone must suck.
funny thing, back in the day, we wouldnt even be bothered by that.
True story. I'm not going to lie...my heart stopped a little when I just read that it will be taken away...does that mean I actually have to bring a book and READ!?
i was to report to jury duty on june 3. i told them i was out of the country. got excused.

It's funny how our society demands jury when we're on trial, but when it comes time to serve it many of us find the most far fetched reasons to get out of it.
So woke up early....drove downtown...sat around the lobby for an hour waiting to "check in" and trying to think of every excuse in the world to be excused...
stood in line with 100 other people with my sheet and photo id waiting for the moment that i could ask if i could apply to be excluded and before i even could the guard look at my ID and said, "you're excluded have a nice day!".
turns out New West (where I live) is "out of their jurisdiction". They had sent the summons to my mom's house in Delta where I haven't lived in over 6 years. I have no idea why they had me at that address considering everything has been changed for quite a while...

how do appoint you to jury duty?
is it through the voters registration like in Family Guy? lol
Actually, yes it is from voter registration:
"People's names are randomly selected from data from the provincial voter's list - this is how your name was picked. You are required to respond to your jury summons. "
Aside from not giving a shit, that's the main reason I don't vote Posted via RS Mobile
that made me lol
