WIND celebrates Vancouver anniversary by selling “lightly loved” Bold 9700 for a buck

WIND Mobile officially kicked the doors open in Vancouver a year ago and today they announced they’ll be celebrating by selling a “lightly loved” BlackBerry 9700’s for only $1. Good deal for a refurbished Berry. The WIND fine print states that these “Lightly Loved” phones have been slightly refurbished by the manufacturer and carry a 90-day exchange policy”. This is specific to Vancouver WIND locations and is only on this Friday (June 3rd). WIND states that “All proceeds from the $1 phones will be donated to the Vancouver Covenant House.”

Update: We reached out to WIND for a bit more clarification on the this offer, specifically the monthly plan needed. They stated that “All people need to do is prepay two months of plan fees when activating a named account with a monthly fee of $40 per month or more.”

True only for 3G. For 2G, you're all good to go with Fidogers. Bellus, you're out of luck.

I'm getting one so that I can get a cheap new phone that I can use on 2G with Rogers once I'm done the Wind time, and who knows....I might just give the number to my mom once I'm done; she's in the market for a new phone anyways. If it works out, they just got themselves another subscriber.

Wow this is a great strategy. Killing three birds with one stone. Pulling in customers by giving them a cheap phone, emptying out their inventory of refurbished/older phones and also allowing people to test the quality of their network.
Wonder how long it'll take them to sell out though.. Hopefully they'll last till lunch time!

As far as I'm aware, you shouldn't need a credit check; it just says "prepay for 2 months", and they do have a prepaid service (that's exactly the same as a postpaid service, except you get cut off if you haven't got your bill paid by the cutoff date).

No idea about numbers, I'm gonna drop by tonight and see what the deal is. I'm also going to find out when it all starts; I work at 10 on the other side of downtown. The original post said 9, but now it says 9:30. One is doable for me, the other is not. I'll keep the thread updated.

Apparently, the 50th person lined up around 7:40am and the 1st person lined up at 2am.

The other people that showed up got a free data stick and one free month of unlimited internet. (Which I got since I showed up too late for the bb) They were also giving away gums and $1 jumbo hot dogs with all the fix.

^I had mobilicity for about 3 months, had so bad signal that i decided to change up to wind for a test period of 3 months, signal is much better than mobilicity. At least when i go to somewhere near UBC its not CDN Roaming......... actually not as bad as i expected, full bars within downtown Vancouver, 3-4 bars indoors.

My mom lives on Capitol Hill, a place notorious for its iffy reception, but she's got no problems even in the basement. A couple of my coworkers who are with Mobilicity complain of intermittent dead zones, one of which is actually the building at work. Wind users, however, seem to have no problem.
