The Most Dangerous Place to Camp

Camping out in Mt. Everest may be too hazardous given the unstable climate conditions aboard the world’s tallest mountain, but it doesn’t hold a candle to pitching a tent on the side of a 4,000ft sheer cliff face in Baffin Island, located in the Arctic.

Hanging tents in precarious positions is just part of what it means to be a modern day explorer.

Scaling these mountains can last for weeks and explorers need to set up tents on the edge of monstrous cliff faces to rest between climbs.

Each of these photographs was taken by photographer and explorer Gordon Wiltsie, who risks his life for these stunning photoshoots.

im not 100% sure, but i believe they anchor everything in with little metal wedge looking things. you slip them into the cracks of the mountain and they wedge themselves in there pretty damn good and are able to hold hundreds of pounds.

considering how much it costs to go on an expedition like this they're either so rich they don't need day jobs
or their day jobs pay $$$$
costs like $40k average to get guided up Everest

in the second photo, he looks like he might be cooking something inside the tent

if you're hanging off a cliff side.... where else would you cook?
those tents are designed to be cooked in.

well, the fly is another $400. plus you're going to need good anchors and stuff to keep it up.
I'd be so freaked out - imagine trying to put in anchors and trusting them to put all the weight on them.... then sleep.

Anchors can carry a LOT of weight. Still, nobody is going to put in a single anchor and rely on that. I see 10 anchors for 3 tents and their backpacks - nothing like a little overkill.

I don't know anyone who's done this yet, but I'd bet they still have their harness on even when they go to sleep.

You're on a badminton forum. Therefore, your argument is void.

I think the fact that you're hanging off the side of a cliff will prevent any accidents resulting from sleep walking or forgetting where you are. You'd have to climb OUT of your tent just to get outside!
