Pretty cool concept and hopefully developers make good use of it.
A full HD gaming experience with a new controller that features a 6.2inch touch screen that you can use along side with the TV or switch and just play on the screen.
It's pretty cool to see a lot of devs onboard too. Battlefield 3 on the Wii U? Who would've thought

The controller is huge though and seems awkard to hold for expended periods of time. Then again, i'll need use it first hand before I pass judgement.

the problem with this is Sony can easily replicate the experience through the Vita and PS3
however, the pricing is what will be the obstacle to this for Sony
Media reports sugges that technically Nintendo can release the new console this year but settled to wait for 2012 release when the parts and the technology cost goes down
i wonder how much Nintendo can sell a Wii U and 2 Tablet controllers package next year
but skeptisism aside, im glad Nintendo didnt take a simple new console approach, good innovation for gaming, lets see how Nintendo can improve their 3rd party developer support this console

That controller would be great for Poker and Madden.

Looking at the videos it doesnt actually seem too bad, Just dont know why they sucked at presenting it at the nintendo press release.

with the Wii U an actual functioning Wii console, dont expect a price drop on any of its accessories like the wiimote plus and nunchuck, that can already set you back $70
michael pachter did an analysis and with the console being a year away and can drop the cost to make it, most like the console will be sold at a price point of $300 since its still competing directly with ps3 and 360.. the touchscreen isnt multitouch, so thats one cost that nintendo cut corners with..behaves exactly like teh 3ds/ds touch screen

isn't the controller itself in a competition with the 3DS?
Wii U is a horrible name..worse than PS Vita
edit: WTH...no blu-ray?

blu-ray will take at least 5yrs as for license to expire
& i read this on CNN (before E3 2011) that the price might be 500-600 which is a little pricey for the average house hold for sure so not sure how there gonna take care of that

Blu-Ray being a Sony format has nothing to do with it not being on other consoles. Microsoft and Nintendo could have Blu-Ray if they wanted it. DVD was a Sony format too until 1997.
Because the Wii U is using old generation DX9 hardware and cheap parts in the controller as well, I expect it to be around the same price as a Kinect or Move bundle. Maybe $50 more since it's "new"
Extra controllers will probably be $100-130

Great - first was the newspaper/magazine. Then came the smart phone. And now this! More time wasted while sitting on the toilet... :D

This thing is pretty cool to be honest. I just hope they make more adult games that are not mii character orientated. Great start with BF3.

The options are endless with the new controller. An RTS game like Command and conquer would be killer on this.

the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA) includes many more entities than Sony and they've even made decisions in the past that wasn't exactly in the favour of Sony/Playstation.
For example allowing Microsoft to use a Blu-Ray player in Xbox (or to create an addon) even though Microsoft never bothered they were allowed to by the BDA. There were some other things regarding the film industry cant recall (think it was allowing a dying but rival film company for putting its movies on blu-ray; yeaaaars ago)

Microsoft and Nintendo both know that physical media for movies is old news. Blu Ray is a dead end format, for the mainstream at least.

So far the news/rumor is that only 1 of the wii U controller can be used at once... I really hope that is not true.

Sounds true, coming from Miyamoto himself. I assume that there wouldn't be enough bandwidth for more than one, at least not while keeping the prices low.
Nintendo's stock has dropped every day since the Wii U announcement.

eh i doubt that will happen for a loooong time
just like how it took dvd until a couple years ago to surpass vhs
if ye look @ HD movies you can download/rent from netflix/psn/ppv etc they look like shit and sound like shit
im sure it'll happen but by the time it does there will be something else to replace blu-ray that downloaded content cant compare with either
but quality might end up being a niche market like LPs for music i just cant see it happening for quite a long time yet.. time in which these companies like Nintendo/Apple/Microsoft can be making a killing (but microsoft and apple are invested in downloaded content so they're refusing to support blu-ray etc)

You can't compare it to DVD, it's a totally different era. Things happen much faster now.
Rentals are already being killed by online, and it's just a matter of time before online does the same to owning movies.
Eventually, we will never buy our media on physical discs ever again. Movies, TV, music, etc, will all be streamed to our various PC's, tablets, notebooks, phones, etc.
Look at Google Music, Amazon Music, and iTunes Cloud. it's happening already. Although itunes sucks and it can't stream for some stupid reason (expect them to add it later on for a price), the others do (along with many 3rd party services that do.
It's happening faster than you think :)

cloud services are too new, and i dont think they'll take off all that well either except for the geeks :)
especially cloud services on smartphones what with telecom companies in the states removing unlimited data and charging for everything they can (tethering... the hell? etc)
im not saying it wont happen i just think these companies are forcing things on to consumers a little too quickly hoping they'll adopt (spedn spend spend) and it'll fail like 3D :)

We'll see I guess. I think the popularity of netflix is just another indication. Microsoft is focusing on it, as we saw at e3 this week.

I'll probably pass. Hopefully either the next xbox or ps4 keeps shit simple I still like just playing games with a regular controller and not having to get up or move around.
