I'm really surprised there's no thread on this one yet.

I just got back from watching it and I have to say the story line and plot was beyond excellent. It's honestly one of the better movies I have seen in ages. I thought it was a very different spin on similar movies that have came out in the past which made me really enjoy. This is the move you have to see.

It's a not bad film.

But the ending is kinda weak

The "Alien" is also a fail on its part. All he does is kill for revange.
It should have got in contact with those kids more. But...its only the last part.

This movie should have gone deeper emotion. But its not.

To be honest, I didn't think this was a great movie at all. I found X-men first class much more entertaining and I'm not a comic fanatic.
Steven Speilberg was making this too similar to E.T to the point where it was basically E.T. with modern special effects.

There's something about having kids as the protagonists that really destroys movies, especially this one. When I see those kids acting the way they do and deciding to, in a very broad sense without spoiling the movie, "be heroes", I just laugh in my mind and view it as a joke. I expected better but I was highly disappointed.

3/10 - I fell asleep and was awoken by loud cannon noises.

I liked it but it had all the typical pacing problems you would expect from JJ Abrams. It relies pretty heavily on nostalgia so if you were not a child of the 80s, I can see how you totally wouldn't get it.

I'd give it a 7/10.

Xman First Class I thought was much more solid and entertaining. I"ll agree with Dasani there - closer to an 8/10.

The ending was just that, an ending. It felt like all the buildup and suspense to the ending was wasted. The movie went for too long and they just wanted to send you all home after they pocketed your money.

In all fairness, the kids werent bad at acting. They had their funny parts.

I would rate this movie a 6/10

Okay movie, the suspense of finding out what it was was pretty good. Ending was okay, nothing more than obvious.

Same. I watched this based on rotten tomatoes' score and I thought the movie was underwhelming.

ending was weak,Action scene's felt so used & seen Before from Previous movie's like "BATTLE OF L.A" with the whole Enemie vs ARMY war going on in a Town this time not a city...

Just because steven spielberd is the producer you have every so called Movie reviewer kissing his ass & rating it movie of the year....whatever...Movie was Okay but nothing ground-breaking or moving...

For me I really liked the movie because it bright this childhood sense of discovery and innocence without be cynical or trying to make the children act like adults. I even liked the second half as well.

I just don't get why:
They had to play up the mystery of the Alien in the trailers, its just an alien looking to find it's way home, nothing more. I guess JJ is obsessed with viral advertising. I think they should've advertised the movie the way it meant to be: a throw back to old Speilburg films.

great movie i really enjoyed it

its almost on the level of the Goonies and will probably have that effect on the current child generation (not as good by a longshot compared to Goonies but still good)

I thought it was alright, didn't blow me away. I would give it a 7/10, probably wouldn't watch it again. I kind of agree with the goonies reference but it's like goonies meets E.T. but not nearly as good as either.

I'd rate it less than 3 honestly...wow this movie sucked hard imo. I don't get how some of you guys rated it so high..

For those wondering if they should watch it in theatres; don't bother. The trailer pretty much sums up the movie..

and cloverfield, and goonies. Those who enjoyed/grew up watching ET and Goonies, would have a much better appreciation of this movie... as mentioned by NewGirl, the nostalgia aspect.

i will have to agree with the majority of reviews here.
good plot, great build up but failed to deilver in the end.

the battle scene in the town was horrible. it seemed as if they were firing in all directions at nothing.
this movie had much more potential. they laid out a lot of pieces in the movie that could have been used to make it more interesting. ie the professors documentation, the kids puzzle piece he smuggled and the camera footage they had of the train derailment.

sorry if the review spoiled anything.. i do not know how to use a spoiler tag.

This is they type of moving I grew up watching so thats why I gave it such a good rating. It's the same style movie as kinda ET, Flight of the Navigator etc. It's good to watch harmless kids movies I get tired of a lot of BS that's out there these days and this one is fun plain and simple.

The "battle scene" wasn't really one... the guns were firing on their own, hence why it seemed like they weren't firing at anything in particular

EXACTLY! this movie is SUCH a breath of fresh air. My jaws were tired by the end of the movie, since I was smiling for 2 hours straight. Easily a 10/10 for me.

I seriously can't imagine someone my age not liking this movie. Or kids. I just don't get it. But I also don't get how someone could enjoy Transformers... or fucking Battle LA...

Going in I knew nothing of the movie, didn't watch a trailer, etc.

Sadly, I felt very dissapointed by the movie at the end. I would actually rate it a 4/10.

Or GI Joe.

Watched Super 8 today, thought it was ok, not theater worthy. As others have said, reminded me of E.T.

when i pay $10 to watch a movie i wanna be entertained. transformers does that, super 8 was a waste of $

murd0c
06-27-2011, 04:47 PM
Transformers is a mindless plot that only cares about the special effects with a C grade story line. Like Skinnypupp said this is the type of movie we grew up watching and loving and watching a movie like this helps relive out childhood.

That's the issue of movies these days, it's all about the special effects and the actors that are in it. Growing up it was always about the character progression and the underlying story line which we had in Super8.

Then again I guess the ages we live in if there's not a shooting, car chase or explosion every 10mins the movie sucks.

SkinnyPupp
06-27-2011, 07:36 PM
Ironic, since Transformers SHOULD be about nostalgia. Instead it is nothing but explosions and shiny actors and actresses. How you can be actually entertained (not just impressed by graphics, but entertained) by that, I have no idea.

Like I always say, to each their own. I don't expect everyone to love the same movies I love. Sometimes, I can see why someone would like a movie I don't, and not like a movie I do like. But sometimes, I just don't get it.

I wonder how a movie like Cloak & Dagger would do nowadays or Flight of the Navigator

at least Super 8 was rather profitable so hopefully we'll see more like it in the future

I have Flight of the Navigator on DVD and it's still one of my favorite movies growing up.

When I was around 12, I had the most mind blowingly vivid dream where I was flying a spaceship like in Flight of the Navigator. I was shaken when I woke up. I wanted to go back so bad.. it was a feeling I never had before or since. But I can still remember the dream so vividly to this day :D

10/10 for me. I enjoyed every second of it.

I think a lot of people were misled by the trailer and went into this movie expecting something that's about aliens, big action scenes with cool weapons, and "connection with extraterrestrial" encounters.

No, this movie is NOT about that. It's about letting go of your troubled past, accepting that life throws you curve balls sometimes and the only way to deal with it is to eventually move on. It just happened to be packaged up in a sci-fi backdrop because that's all that alien stuff is - background story.

Great acting by the kids, good story telling, and if you can go into this movie without expecting some summer big action movie then you won't be disappointed. For those that ARE looking for all the cool alien stuff, go watch DISTRICT 9 instead. Now that's a kick ass sci-fi movie about aliens and their kick ass technological prowess.
