I <3 that case too. Comes in black also. Was pretty expensive case though.

Mines not all that fancy. Antec 900 case. I suck at cable management.

My case was $20 off craigslist. I have no idea what brand it is. Just that it's silver and very tall and has annoying blue LED's.

What other cases are nice in terms of cable management and ease of servicing + awesome cooling? Oh and something with black inside and side window (I'm a Comp Ricer). I got the Antec 900 originally for the cooling, but kind of regret it because of servicing.

I hate accessing the HDD's on the 900 because I have to like take both sides of the case off, then unscrew 4 screws on each side to slide the holder out, then I gotta unscrew another 4 screws to get each HDD out.

best case I ever owned was the CM Cosmos
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=28494&vpn=RC-1100-KKN1&manufacture=COOLERMASTER

Didn't keep it because it was too big. It was so well built :(

A lot of people seem to enjoy the CM HAF series. I think you will like the HAF932 Black edition (looks good IMO; has nice big window; black interior; HAF = high airflow; user friendly). They accumulate dust like vaccum cleaners though, thats the downside of having that amount of airflow. You should check out the HAF X too , but its substantially more expensive.

I chose to go with an NZXT Phantom with my build. It gets good reviews too but the main flaw is that the fans are NOT standard sizing. Otherwise it is a very user friendly case too.

:haha: Well, cases are rarely outdated. Corsairs coming out a new line of BUDGET cases though, called the Carbide.

No window though, but they are priced at around 100. My guess is that extra windowed panels will be available in a few months.

^^^ Hotness. Hows that case treating you airflow wise?

joquio
06-14-2011, 10:40 PM
Can't give an accurate opinion on the airflow yet.
The front 200mm case fan is making a weird buzzing noise.
I currently have it unplugged and am still waiting for Corsair to send me a fix kit for it.
So only top 200mm and rear 120mm fans and running and it's hotter than my previous Coolermaster Scout case. It might be because I have no intake fans for now.
Also, the build-in 3 step fan controller is quite handy.

If you really want a case with super airflow maybe opt for the coolermaster HAF series but personally I find them visually hideous.
I chose the Corsair 650D mainly for the subtle look, build quality, cable management.

Datsun
06-16-2011, 01:47 PM
Yup NZXT Phantom. Fell in love with the case when it came out and scored it for 90 on Boxing day (red one was for 70 but in-store only).

But if I bought it at retail (roughly the same, 170 vs 175), I'd go with the Corsair.

Cman333
06-21-2011, 11:13 AM
^ To pay someone to do that would be pretty costly I think.

The case I think is the Coolermaster Cosmos. I had that case before, it's a HUGE heavy case.

The paint looks like automotive paint + clear coat, making the plexi side window isnt too hard but you need the tools. I would've flared the corners (use a torch on lowest setting) to give it a nicer smooth edge. Then comes the decals which probably would need to get done at some graphics/sign store.

Then comes the front piece. I can't even guess how that was made. Need a brighter pic. I'll assume ABS plastic wrapped in that 3M carbon material.

Datsun

Oh yeah I tried to price match them too at Memory Express but they wouldn't do it.
For some reason the red LED sickflows have two different parts number but they look identical though. Memory Express wouldn't budge so I did not buy at that time.

I actually want something without LED (It's getting too colorful inside the case :p) and really want the Scythe gentle typhoons but they are always out of stock/back ordered everywhere and yes the noctua P12s are just too damn ugly.

Speaking of DX, I was planning to buy the white LEDs from them, hah

Changing LEDs should be fairly straight forward (peel off glue, desolder, position, solder, fap) but the ones on the PCB of the Phantom's fan controller requires a really sharp tip soldering gun and very still hands. I checked out the top 200mm and it looks pretty easy to do.

I'm planning to have all white lighting except for power LED, which if I can find the right one, will be color shifting, kinda like those light poles @ Production station.

^ ever thought about routing your power cords thru the grommet instead of the cut out hole?

DOH!
Thanks, I didn't notice that grommet hole until you mentioned.
I'll re-route my cable when I get home.

Thanks for the info.
Where do you get your replacement LED from?

BTW, I'll probably get some NZXT extension cable to murder out the cables.
NZXT 24PIN ATX Power Extension Cable (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=52314&vpn=CB-24P&manufacture=NZXT)
NZXT 6PIN Video Card Extension Cable (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=56054&vpn=CB-6V&manufacture=NZXT)

Then I'll be done for now............or maybe upgrade my sound card? :fuuuuu:

Xonar vs X-fi ?

Ill be looking for the color shifter at lee's electronics on Main. If I can't find it there ill have to go ebay but that canada post shit.. -__-

I'm looking at the same extensions too. Canada doesn't get too many choices for brand/color (bitfenix has a bunch of sick colors even silver, amazon USA got the white versions of nzxt's, etc). Tbh they're a bit expensive but then again I can't stand the gay bacon coming out of my mobo and gpu. Would be sweet if I can get all 3 cables for around $10 but I don't think that's gonna happen, haha

A lot of ppl seem happy with their xonars, but I haven't really been in the loop for audio stuff. Onboard does the job for me lol

Yeah those extension are way overpriced than what they are worth.
But yeah.... I too hate those rainbow cables.

Just saw the white ones you mentioned on Amazon.com and they do look sweet!
I'll probably stick to the black ones coz I think the white ones look cooler if you have a white case.

But $30+ for 1x24pin and 2x6pin extension cable is really bum raping... :ratedb:

It was just suppose to be a CPU, mobo, ram upgrade. Thats it!

Now I keep trying to think of ways to Pimp my rig.

Now I feel like I need a 2nd 27", Modular PSU and keyboard.

One thing I did notice about the 600T. The airflow isn't quite as good as my Antec 900. I disassembled my 900 and painted the inside black and gonna semi pimp my old comp.

Ya man so true:okay:

But no the MIR is specific to NCIX purchase only but I know what you meant.
I got lucky once with the MSI 560 ti and managed to pm the after MIR price since they didn't update/unaware of their website to included the MIR so I kinda double dipped on the MIR. :fullofwin:

I'll probably install the parts sometime next week. But only the MOBO will look different since the 2500k is hidden under my H70.

Edit: BTW I picked up the Asus Xonar DG too just to try out and so far it's alright. Was gonna go for the DX but don't know if it's that much better than the DG. I'm using headphones only for gaming anyway.

My current temps are 30C on the coolest core and 37C on the hottest core.

I heard idle temps are not reliable measurements. Instead we should work with the load temps. I ran my stock 2500K (w/ CM hyper 212+ in stock config) through Prime 95 for about an hour and the max I could get it was 52C. The ambient temp was 27C. When I have more time I'll reseat my cooler and try more programs.

Whats your method of TIM application? It might not have spread well enough.

It also looks like you're now using Sickleflows on the radiator? Try swapping back on the stock fans because the Sickleflows are meant to be case fans and not heatsink/rads.

Oh and make sure the pump is running 100% (the right plug on mobo/the right setting in BIOS)

Try these out and lmk!

:okay:
I'm aware and made sure pump was running 100% (disabled smart fan in BIOS).
You're right, I'm running Sickflows on the rad. Only started using them when I put my 2500K build together so maybe they are the culprit. I'll try switching them out.
Also, I'll try to re-apply the TIM using rice grain technique coz I still think I have too much TIM applied.

Thanks for the help though :)

I heard a pea sized dot is the best.

I'm using Innovation Cooling Diamond 7 carat thermal compound on my 2500k. Although my temps are high cause the case is small and doesn't have as good airflow.

Squirt a dot in the middle the size of a pea and apply heatsink. Do not lift up to check it.

Both cases look great, however the sound dampening walls on the Define XL are attractive to me. Considering that my 560 and CPU are running at 27degrees C, I don't think I'll be going with water cooling anymore.

But the 800D looks amazing with the window and clean edges... So many choices haha.

I have the same case in black, love it. If you use 3 or less HDDs you can move half the stack in the middle and remove the empty one...it would remove any blockage in the front 200mm fan and give you better airflow.

Did you have extra lights added to it? Looks so bright o_o

HEY GUYS, FUCK YOU!

After seeing this thread and how clean you guys have your computer, I went out and bought a whole new rig and I am doing my install as we speak. Impulse? you betcha

Case: Corsair 650d
Mobo: Gigabyte Z68 board
CPU: i5 2500k
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2x4GB
PSU: Corsair AX750
Cooling: Corsair H100
Vid card: 2x XFX 6870's in XFIRE

Realistically I am aiming for this:

LOL unhealthy thread is unhealthy...looking fwd to the build pix though!

Here's the latest shot, an Enermax Cluster fan in the back. So bright it drowns out my hard work on the top fan.

Its super loud and runs full speed because its connected via "4pin -> molex" and not the 3pin my fan controller accepts. Now I gotta go hobo-mode and look for a fan with the right plug so I can mod the adaptor to work. Maybe I'll go butcher my stock cooler. :concentrate:

Ok here it is...finished building yesterday. XFX didn't give any Crossfire bridge which is stupid.

Waiting on the NZXT sleeved power supply cable adapter for a more cleaner look.

ALSO THIS RIG IS FOR SALE!!!

Reasons for selling:
1) I read this forum and wanted to see what I could come up with for a more AESTHETIC looking computer. Dead serious. All black does look pretty sick.

2) And now I'm finished building it (not caring about looks) I want the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Z68 mobo for the 3-way SLi support. I have 2 6870's in xfire (better performance) but I'd rather go 2x or 3x GTX560 in SLi for the better drivers.

This pic was taken a couple of years ago. Only difference is I swapped all case fans for Yate Loons, popped in a 2TB HD and switched my E8400 for a Q9550. Case is a CM 690. I think I did an OKAY job with the cable management :lol

damn bro, we have almost the exact computer haha.

Sorry but won't be selling/trading the parts :(

Those were the 2 parts I mainly built it around because the AX750 had all black modular cables and the H100 hid perfectly in the 650d case, leaving the mobo more exposed.

Operation HoboDesk™ almost complete.

- bought $6 slab of wood-like material from IKEA as-is
-bought 4x $5 VIKA CURRY table legs
-found out sheet of 'wood' was cheap for a reason, its a hollow (in most places) headboard for a MALM bedframe
-take thin but incredibly dense wooden-fibre desktop from old disassembled desk
-use that to strengthen top sheet of wood and provide mounting place for legs

I estimate the weight to be around 60 pounds. LOL. Makes my 27" monitor look tiny.

http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/8893/desk1d.jpg

Now I'm just looking for a dollar store multi-coat hanger (ones that hook onto the top of doors). After I play with the brackets a bit I'll mount that to the underside of the desk , so I can do cable mgmt later with the surge protectors etc.

Not very sure on GPU side, but my guess from the rumors is that Southern Islands and Kepler will both show up later in 2012.

Pretty much this. Listening to my friend's stock i5 760 cooler is like standing next to a running propeller engine. You could get a Hyper 212+ like me, which I got for $20 on an NCIX weekend in-store sale.

I need some help to improve aircooling on my gfx card.

Its got 2 small fans on it, stock ones.

Currently idles at mid 50s Celsius.
At load its around high70s sometimes hitting 80.

Need to get a pic of system or something to show.

Need more details like what kinda card it is. Most likely you'll be able to replace it with a bigger heatsink with larger fans. Arctic cooling comes to mind.

Oops, I stepped out for awhile after that post and totally forgot to get a picture. Picture of layout and specs to follow.

First of all, are those temps normal for a 560Ti?

EDIT: Temps taken from BF3 1920x1080 on high settings.

Lowest 2 fans that look like they are doing nothing were just extra ones lying around. Could possibly position them better.
And not sure if i should change the back exhaust fan to have it pull in air.
Also all wires are hidden, so they aren't blocking airflow.

Also, from the diagram, are you drawing air out of the heatsink on your GPU? I always installed mine to suck air into the heatsink of the GPU

The Twin Forsa does a much better job or cooling due to better heatsink and fans.

Airflow in the case looks good. If you really want to drop those temps you'll need aftermarket since evga is simply based on the reference design.

I've never used an EVGA DS card myself, but if it does exhaust hot air into the case like MSI Twin Frozr's, your P280 is not the best chassis to use.

If you had a side panel vent and another vent between the HDD cage and the PSU, you could use your 2x 120's in those places to bring out all the hot air thats being trapped inside the case right now.

Best solution w/o cutting into your case is probably get a 120mm exhausting air out of the remaining 6 PCI slot covers.

EDIT: also, leave your top rear 120mm exhausting, you dont want to bring in hot air that's coming out of your GPU below. Change the H100 fans to INTAKE, but use fan filters for that.

The stock fans on the gpu are sucking air into the card I believe.

Yea the case was probably not the best choice, but i wanted something pretty plain looking. I hate those crazy looking cases and I have no need for windows etc, as the tower sits under the desk and I never really look at it.

I'll try switching the top two fans with the rad and get them to draw air in instead of exhausting.

Also I'll try to take the bottom inside 120mm and move it to the 6 PCI slot covers and exhaust from there.

Will report back later, thanks so far!

After changing around the radiator and fans, as well as moving one of the lower fans to exhaust out the pci cover slots. The cpu was cooler but the gpu was hotter.

In conclusion, I put everything back to were it originally was. And I guess ill just bump up the fan speeds on idle etc. At 50 percent fan speed at idle its around 48ish, so like 6 degrees cooler.
