If I were to buy an M5, it would still be the E39.

you dilute the M line with cars like X6 M and people will find the M3/5/6 boring

Still have to give them props for offering a manual though. Not going to find that on a E63 or RS6.

i would take it over the e60 even if it looked like a bag of shit just because it doesn't have the HORRID smg transmission
F10 is the chassis number, eg e39, e60... they have rolled into the F's now. it probably still has the same power plant or a modified version of the v10 w/ twin scroll turbos.

^ dual clutch....SMG III is actually pretty smooth if you drive it a like a manual....ie. lift off throttle slightly when you shift. Also choosing faster shifts pts, smooths out the tranny.....
not bad, but something looks weird in the front

They knocked off two cylinders and added a pair of turbos.
Sure it's going to produce more power and a bit better on the fuel economy but it's gonna sound like an exotic car =\

completely different engines....the V10 is a high compression high rev motor, Vs the new TT V8....big torque, but not many revs......V8 with TT will never sound more exotic than a V10 with headers

ps: i think SG's just trying to troll us all here lol
Is this SMG no good on the E39? I was considering buying the 545i w. SMG but I guess I could just opt out and get the auto. There are a number of cars in that price range I am considering, I still have 10 months before I get my license back lol
IMO, the new 5 series is a step back in styling however I think the thing looks a lot better in person but still doesn't have that excitement of the last gen. Pretty disappointing to see BMW move to a way more conservative design.
I think it looks good, but the E39 is still the M5 of my choice.

its smooth, but it shifts incredibly slow unless you're hitting redline. i drove an m3 dct and fell in love with that thing. might have even considered it over a 6mt if i was to ever get one lol.

E39s never came with smg. and the smg in the e60 545 is SMG1 i believe, which is complete shit. i'd opt for the auto and save some money when the time for repairs come.

the front looks good to me. it is like the M3's bigger, more powerful older brother.
but I'm not feeling the back, too boring.
the first post is blank? the linked pictures don't appear to be working.
edit: after thinking about BMW's current car designs, it makes me think that maybe BMW needs Chris Bangle back?!

E60 is where its at....
F10 is appealing to more buyers of this category I think, cuz they wont want to work for their power...i assume that people who are in the market for M5s are big business men or whatever... (unless you are in Richmond, then its ... just ..umm ya)
the new F10 V8TT is smth like 501TQ @ 1500rpm.... "American Muscle" anyone?

would still perfer the E39 gen for a M5.
current F10 series 5 series are quite bloated.. theyre about the same size as the last gen 7 series.
still, the madonna "star" commercial was just :fuckyea:
im pretty sure most of us would perfer the exotic sound of the older E60 series V10 howl over the newer perhaps muffled twin turbo V8 sound.
the E39 NA 5.0 V8 sounds awesome in real life... and especially with an aftermarket system.

I agree that the new M5 styling is too subtle and boring, but AMG E class..that is even more boring....most times I can't even tell if it is an AMG or not.
Let's wait to see the performance stats from the new F10 M5.
