Ignorant people

I dont understand how the fuck people can drive past a crash and not even call the police. Do you honestly not have time to help someone out that could be hurt?

About a half hour or so ago some Idiot in a stolen van sped through the turn lane coming into surrey on fraser and 166th towards tim hortons across the road from me and nailed 2 guys in a white firebird sending both vehicles across the road and over the curb snapping the the passenger rear tire off the car. He then got out and ran westbound dodging traffic to get to the opposite side of the highway.

I ran across the road to check on them and called 911. The 2 guys were in a bit of shock so i had to reach in and turn the car off and put on the 4 ways.
The cops arrived and got a quick description of the guy and took off on foot with a dog and 2 officers.

I hope they catch the guy who did that and am glad atleast 3 others had the time to stop and see if any help was needed. Hoping that the guys who were just out for a drive are alright!

they never stayed, one guy went looking for the runner right after he got out of the drive through 2 others stopped as the fire truck arrived on scene. I had people drive past to get to timmys, I was the only one standing there.

if it was a bad crash and i witnessed it, yes, i would call 911 if i thought whoever was inside the 2 cars were inable to call for themselves.

would i help them out? most likely not. im not a paramedic. i have first aid training, but even then, one of the first thing you learn is DONT TOUCH THEM WHEN THEY'RE IN A CAR. you dont and they dont know if something is broken yet, moving them around and attempting to help them could possibly injure them even more. so standing there like a bump on a log sure aint helping much...you've called 911, thats more then enough for you to do.

^unfortunately thats how the world works and calling 911 is pretty much the most one can do unless the car is burning and the driver is unable to get out themselves.

Just wondering, if you witnessed an accident, how many would've stepped up and volunteered to be witnesses?

lol I know better then that, but i was the first one there when people had already driven past. I was going to tell them to stay seated but they were in shock and could not even reach the ignition. I asked if they had any obvious pain anywhere so i could alert the medics quickly once they got to the scene. I think i could have worded my statement a bit better. I Have some training since i work in the oil patch + my dad use to be a paramedic but its not the training that is needed in this situation.

I reached through the drivers window and over the steering wheel to turn the van off as it was steaming and smoking right beside the car and all i could feel is a hole with a spring, I didnt want any dripping oil to hit the hot exhaust and start a fire while they are injured in the car. and the firemen arrived they went to turn it off and one of them said "Its another punched ignition".

there's the Good Samaritan Act..if you help out in a scene like this and ends up hurting/killing the victim you won't be held accountable.

People are usually too scared to help and afraid of causing more harm than good...myself included.

He just wanted to make a thread showing he's a "hero".

Most people would stop if they see a huge crash to help. If they see others have already stopped they'll just continue, no needs for 10 people to stop.

I witnessed an accident before and I had stopped to make sure everyone was ok. Cops came and I gave my statement and my info. To be honest, it is quite a hassle since I had to go down to an ICBC centre, twice which made me miss school and work. Not only that, but 2 years after, I had to go to court for two days as a witness in which again I had to waste my time with each party's lawyer questioning me beforehand, and then going to court for two days.

I would do it again if I was the only witness at the scene, but if there were others, I wouldn't stop as 2-3 is more than enough people assuming it was not a major accident. If it was a major accident then stop for sure.
