Picked up this book after my wife and I saw the exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago.
So, would Filipino count as hapa? I think most if not all Filipinos are decendants of mixed origin. My mother's family (Filipino) has Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, and Italian origins.
I hear that originally Filipinos were very dark skinned, almost black. But that could just be a myth. Posted via RS Mobile
watch the term Hapa turn into racial slang soon enough. I have always called mixed races
Multi-Racial I think that's the more proper terminology not some stupid slang word.
I think most filipinos now are probably a mix of the indigenous ppl from the Philippines islands and some sort of spanish descendants Posted via RS Mobile

Unless the meaning has changed recently, hapa = half hawaiian, half not
