Butter contains one ingredient: CREAM. Sometimes they add salt.

Margarine is made from a slurry of disgusting augmented oils from plants that generally don't contain much oil. It was developed as a lubricant, but is "suitable for human consumption". Since it is made of "vegetable" oil (before being altered), it is marketed as health food. Stay far, far away from it whenever possible.

I gotta wonder, why is magerine free in movie theatres where they have the straws and napkins where as butter is behind the counter with additional surcharges...

As much as possible though, avoid margarine. Both are very unhealthy, but butter is the lesser of the two evils by a mile.

Unless you're keeping calories down, there's no other reason why you couldn't do that. It's all good, healthy, useful calories. Just a lot of them :)

There's nothing "evil" about butter. It's just cream. Good, healthy saturated fat. It will give you energy, increase your healthy cholesterol level. There's nothing bad about butter, there's everything bad about margarine.

Wait a minute. Hold the phone. Halt the horses. Delay the carousel. So you're saying that eating butter is not bad for you? Not in the least?

If that really is the case, then :fullofwin: coz I absolutely love butter. Haha but yeah I guess it's just a matter having too much of it = fattening. Too much of anything is generally bad, after all.

Have you guys heard the old joke about butter though? If not then

I butter not tell you, or you might spread it.http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/23273_115629068472052_3031_n.jpg

Butter is basically the fat extracted from milk. Is drinking milk considered unhealthy?

The issue with butter is fat. Fat has many more calories per gram than protein or carbohydrates. 1 gram of fat has more than TWICE the calories of 1 gram of protein or carbohydrates.

Eating fat doesn't make you fat. Eating too much makes you fat. Since fat is more calorie-dense, it's easier to eat too many calories with fattier foods.

The margarine people have marketed it as the healthy choice and the education system and health care system have propagated that myth and failed us all.

so you are telling me that you would think rat poison is good for you if it was fortified with omega's and vitmamins? extreme, yes, but margarine is synthetic. ask yourself if you would eat trans fat or olive oil. it is the same comparison. there are a lot of companies that say no trans fat on their margarine containers, but i would be very skeptical about what processing techniques/additives they add to make margarine, margarine.

Here's another question. do you put your butter in the fridge. did you know people in australia do not put any of their butter or eggs in the fridge ? everrrr...weird.

TheNewGirl

Eggs need to go in the fridge.
Butter? Usually I have a big block in the fridge and a small container on the counter.

SkinnyPupp
06-22-2011, 09:51 AM
I leave butter out in small pieces, so it gets eaten before it goes bad.

They don't refrigerate eggs in HK either.. and if you think about it, live eggs are kept warm and they don't go "bad" before a chick hatches... Still, it feels weird not to refrigerate eggs...

DaFonz

If eggs are washed of their outer protective coating (i.e. most grocery store eggs), then they should be refrigerated.

If not, then they are fine to be left out. They will keep longer in the fridge though.

Didn't read through the entire thread, but while neither are "good" for you. Butter is definitely better than margarine. Margarine is full of chemicals. Just because the label says it's lower in fat, doesn't mean it's the better choice. Think about what they do to it in order to take the fat out of it. There are good fats and bad fats. Replacing good fat with chemicals just makes my stomach turn.

Stay away from margarine!

Oh, and as for leaving butter out. Don't leave it out, especially in the summer unless it's going to be consumed quickly. Butter goes rancid. It smells bad and changes color. My grandparents used to leave butter out for weeks at a time. So gross.

Only if you think milk is bad cause that's essentially what butter is (cream/milk and salt)

lots of debate whether dairy in general these days are good for you.. Imo, it is more how milk is produced than anything.. so many hormones, antibiotics etc

I'm not saying milk is bad for you. But the milk we drink has the fat skimmed off the top. There is a huge difference between drinking a tall glass of milk, and eating a pound of butter. Both do different things to your body.

Also, as stated I am pro-butter. Not margarine.

SkinnyPupp

Actually butter and milk are good for you, provided they come from a decent source, and the fat is not removed from the milk. Full of healthy fat, vitamins, and good cholesterol.

Absolutely agree. If the milk used is of good quality, so is the butter.

Only benefit of the extra hormones is big jugs on LG's.
