This is my first time shopping for boots, and if you guys could recommend anything around $200 (or under) and the brands, that would be great. As well as where to buy them locally.

Dude, if you're willing right now to shell out 200 on boots, I would suggest budgeting over the next few months (or however long it takes) to save another 200 or so for those Oak Street Bootmakers boots, assuming you really do want them. Hell, they aren't even out yet so you've got some time to save up (although I think OSB is taking pre-orders).

OSB is a reputable brand, handmade in the USA and will probably last you a decade of you treat them well (shoe trees errrday and leather treatment now and again). What's a couple of months of wait time compared to the years you'll own the boot?

Good choice on picking Dayton boots,you will not be disappointed if you decide to get a pair.They may seem expensive when you first buy them,but the quality and workmanship that went into making them is second to none....you will have them for the rest of your life.

I have 4 pairs of Dayton's,the oldest being 10+ years old and they still look almost brand new.

....one last thing,make sure you negotiate a free container of their boot oil if you buy the boots,it's not much but it's still a $15 value.

To be honest Mindbomber,the best thing to do is head down to the store and try them out for fitment.They don't fit like any other boot made.The staff will determine the exact size you need when they measure your feet.

Plus the shop is a cool place to check out too.

I am the proud owner of a pair of Dayton 64 Caulked logging boots I bought new in 1971 in Terrace BC. Hey thanks for the reply. I guess I'm not really willing to cash out too much money because these will mostly be for the winter. Just as long as I can walk in the snow without getting my socks wet, I'll be happy.

Moc or the plain toe is what I prefer.

I am looking for a colour similar to the boots I posted previously. A darker shade of brown would be good too.

I am not too sure about the shape, but if you have anything that fits the criteria above in mind, that'd be great!

Okay, well if you're walking in snow, the leather sole on the OSBs is not the best choice because you won't have any grip and the leather would dissolve (not really, but it's not good). A rubber sole would be better. The boots I've suggested all have rubber soles, but only one of them is lugged for traction.

Red wings has a pretty awsome machine you stick your foot into and it tells you exact sizing for each foot, obviously you need to go with whatever foot is bigger for the sizing

I'm a size 14; I know how difficult it can be to find a boot that 'feels' right, not to mention the frustrating lack of availability of styles in our size. I have a pair of Iron Rangers in style 8111; they don't feel awkwardly long, quite comfortable, good quality and value. The 8126 is basically the same boot, but with broque detailing that elevate the dressiness a touch. There's a Red Wings store in Burnaby, and another in Langley. I bought mine in Langley.

redwings has amazing arch support moldable ones, you stick them in the over for 2 minutes at 200 deg then stick them in your boots, the quality is amazing for $65, better than my dad's custom orthotics in terms of build quality

however, they are not for people with a high instep, i bought them originally for my redwing 877, they KILLED my feet in them because my foot sat too high in the boot so my heel rubbed on the back of the boot, so no good for myt 877 because of the style of boot

I then put them into my work boots, Dunlop purofort rubber steeltoe, these then pushed my foot up too high in the boot and consequently my foot was "pinched" at the arch because it sat too high, so they were a no go as well

Lol my reviews sound pretty bad, but they are very good insoles and they have a 90 day guarantee, bring them back full refund no questions

Currently I'm using "Sof Sole" arch support from Mark's, they are $25, low profile, and very comfortable

You can heat them up as well just don't put them in for too long.

When it's sunny and warmer out, you can apply the LP and let it sit in the sun for about 30 mins.

I have a pair of suede DB's from clarks and I have to say they've held up a bit better than I expected. That being said, I like how suede wears out and still looks nice when its beat up, but that is just personal preference.

There are various different types of protectors and even kits to clean and maintain suede if you like it looking very 'new'

if they are full suede and not nubuck, then you should probably take care of them well.
spray them with protectant and dont ever wear them in the rain.
you can use certain types of brushes to restore the nap if it starts to look glossy.

so i'm onto about the 5th oil in about 5 months. Had them out in the sun this past weekend for about 30 minutes then oiled them, it's hard to tell from the picture but the color of the leather now is more dark chocolate than the original red leather color, they are coming along pretty fuckin sweet:

I don't know what happened.. I had the P-Rod 1, 2, and 3 and they were all so comfortable and so durable (hence I only had 3 pairs of shoes in the last 7 years)

But now they suck.. back to normal Nikes for me I guess

Got it from TBS when they had the 15 or 20% off sale. That and good exchange rate. I think it came out to be a bit over 300 after duties, tax and shipping. Much cheaper than the retail price of 430 or so + tax that roden and GP charges. Friend was lucky and found a BNIB one in his size on ebay for 280 shipped.

Depends on your style. You're comparing a more athletic runner vs a more casual sneaker. Colour matters greatly as well. I'd say if you mostly wear tshirts and more athletic stuff, then roshe would be great. If you were button downs or cardigans, maybe go with the gazelles.

Imho, i've only seen a few nice gazelle colourways. Most of them are pretty bleh. Theres a lot of better choices to replace the gazelle with. Roshes on the other hand have really niec colourways.

GATs look stupid on feet (lows). I've had a pair - definitely not worth the money. You can get GAT replicas for like $70 on eBay. The MMM version is NOT worth the premium at all.

No idea. I couldnt find a sticker price tag on them, and the sales reps were busy. It's not on their online store catalog either, but I'd probably assume they're in the 500 range. They had a really nice cream/beige colourway.

CP Achilles still nicer imo. Started wearing mine these days and it is so versatile and matches almost every outfit.
