hardrive making click noise

So yesterday i went to NCIX and bought a Western Digital WD Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM HD

installed it, sooner or later it started making a click noise for the entire night, and i was like wat the hell. Was planning to remove it and go back to NCIX for exchange, during the process i wanted to double check, fair enough when i disconnect the new HD, no more clicking noise. I plug it back in to erase some of the stuff, the sound is gone. It use to click a lot during idle, now it occasionally clicks when i access that HD and what not.

what gives?

how is NCIXs return policy?

should i get this one instead?

im not too sure whats wrong with the hard drive but i believe NCIX has a 15% restocking fee. If youre just using the hard drive for storage the seagate one would fit your needs.

thx for the quick reply

i already have some files in this HD, now it doesnt wonna make any noise. Unless im going thru the files, than it makes a tiny bit clicking sound.

BUt compare to last night, this is nothing. Yesterday was going nuts, i was like wat the hell is going on

Im just afraid if i take it back, it doesnt click they gonna say there is nothing wrong with the HD

It shouldn't click. WD Blue should be pretty quiet. The only clicking you might hear is if the heads are parking due to inactivity.

Personally I would recommend WD over Seagate.

You could be indexing or virus scanning. Check for this the next time you hear the noise.

The problem noise is not a clicking noise, but more of a scratching noise with a period of about 1 second.
