I haven't watched the vid yet but if you study Sociology it's clear that college and university is used by our society largely to delay entrance into the work force from where it previously was at about 16-18 now to closer to 25+. It also serves to extend adolecent like behaviors, delaying entrance into the crowded housing market as well and extending the period of frivolous spending (while college students live off their parents dime). These are all factors that are actually very important to the socioeconomic sustainability of our culture.
When the baby boomers all retire and there's an employment and (hopefully) housing vacuum, I suspect we'll see again more emphisis on experience and less on education outside of those roles that require extensive education (traditionally medicine, hard science, law).
This... all learned as part of my worthless college education ;P
