: Witnessed a HORRIFIC car animal accident

Driving east on westminster hwy in Richmond, by Minoru blvd.
There were cars and busses driving slow for some reason, some stopped. I stopped.

Passenger told me to look at a duck family (big mother duck and like 10 baby ducks crossing the street (middle of westminster highway) in traffic.

Then suddenly a big truck runs over 5 baby ducks and died instantly, a few were injured, and 2 were ok. The mother duck was ok but was traumatized when she went back to look for the babies.

Cars stopped this time but that was a horrible and sad sight.

I wanted to run out of my car to direct/stop traffic but it was too late.

seen it happen on hwy 17, dont expect a truck to do a full stop for small animals, i dont think it can anyways, just sayin

A truck can't stop as fast as a car, but a good truck driver would have been looking far enough ahead to see other cars had stopped and prepared to do the same.

Good truck drivers are a very small minority.

I saw an animal that looked like a flattened soda can in the middle of the road on marine way. It was still alive and its paw was up as if waving for people to stop. I was the passenger and all I could think about was "shit I wish i could put it out of its misery" fucking sad shit when i see animals like this :(

ya my dads avoided a deer or 2 before, but small ducks.. if your going 60 - 70 mph with a full load its time = money in the trucking industry. Faster you deliever the more you get paid cause you can do more loads in 1 month.

The amount of time it would take to stop for ducks is irrelevant for an otherwise productive driver, it's the equivalent of hitting one extra red light.

just because they are animals doesnt mean we shouldn't be sympathetic. To us they may be food, but think in the mother duck's perspective, to see your babies die in front of you and don't know what to do at all to save them.

At my workplace, one office has a view of a rooftop with a seagull nest. I saw the 2 adult seagulls and 2 baby seagulls today. I'll try to get a pic of them on Monday to change up the mood in here.

I actually saw a duck on highway 1 yesterday.
Was driving in heavy traffic, it was on the far left HOV lane.
It looked like it was just sitting there... it was alive but both its legs got run over.

when a big truck is going at high speeds, its hard for them to stop
and if they do quickly stop, they can easily lose control

its sad the ducks had to die the way they did, but if a few ducks were killed to prevent the truck from losing control and causing the death of a few people, its not that bad

but still, RIP ducklings

i've seen that happen on a highway in victoria heading into Langford on the exit. Two people got out of their car to direct traffic while walking up the exit ramp an old guy in a oldsmobile zooms right by them and runs over the ducks such a horrible sight.

I grew up in a shipyard and one thing that I can tell you is that a mama duck will try to fuck you up if you or your cat even look at it.

One of my neighbors had an abandoned duckling as a pet.

Should check out the news sometimes

I hope the SPCA can take care of the mother and the remaining five.

Not sure if serious. Do you think that using SPCA resources and money could be best spent by helping a couple ducks?

Horrific is the 40 some people killed in the last 24 hours in Mexico
Horrific is what is happening through out the middle east
Horrific is watching a guy get smoked on a motor bike by a big rig and watching his body parts fly in all different directions(seen it)

If it makes you feel any better, I went camping last weekend and woke up one morning absolutely besieged by baby geese. My friends and I gave them some food and they swam away later quacking.

This sort of thing happens...it sucks but better the ducks than any human casualties. If stopping to save the ducks was dangerous...well...then...

obviously don't know shit all about trucking, I have had my own fucking business in that industry. 5 minutes = 500$, so the fuck what, ducks got hit on the road which is full of traffic it would of happened somewhere else in this world. Time to step outta the sheltered world you faggots live in and realize that much worst happens everyday.

If a few ducks getting run over is HORRIFIC then a dog with its puppies getting run over would probably make your heart explode out of your chest.

Once you move out of your parents' house ( in your mid 30s as is customary in Vancouver) you will discover more horrific things in the world than roadkill ducks.

I hope you didn't call 911 to have the duck ambulance come and take them to SPCA. :D

You know how many ducks they kill at YVR or any airport? Remember if youve ever taken a plane youve contributed to the death of hundreds of poor ducks.

Seriously if some idiot stood in the middle of westminster and directed traffic for fuckin ducks i sure as hell wouldnt be stopping.

They are fucking ducks, anyone whos spent time at bby lake dodging duck shit would know theres plenty more of them and they are a nuissance.

I witnessed a fly getting killed by my windshield today.

I guess I should've given some thought before driving faster than 10km/h if only I looked at it from their offspring's perspective.

it was so HORRIFIC

Attempt to save ducks goes horribly awry
By Rikki King, Herald writer
LYNNWOOD -- Traffic tangled on southbound I-5 in Lynnwood on Tuesday night after a woman got out of her car to try to save some ducks in the freeway.

Around 7:15 p.m., the woman was southbound on the highway just south of 44th Avenue W, said Trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol. There was a duck and ducklings in the freeway.

She pulled onto the shoulder, got out of the car and tried to corral the ducks, Leary said. She also tried to stop traffic.

A semitruck that was headed toward the woman avoided her but hit her car, jackknifed and hit another vehicle. The crash slowed traffic for hours.

No injuries were reported. Two ducks did, however, die.

People were lucky there weren't worse impacts to human life, Leary said.

"As much as we all love animals, citizens should not stop and attempt to corral animals on the freeway," he said.

The woman faces possible charges of disorderly conduct, he said.
