Any opinions on these? Anyone tried a set? Interested in the new PSS's to replace my Kumho SPT which are going to be worn out by the end of the summer driving season I think.

never used them, but I can vouch for the Hankook Ventus V12 for a great tire. if they fit your size, they're worth looking into!

I've driven the V12 before. Sidewalls are too soft for autocross and ultimate grip is not as high. However I don't want to go and use Star Specs because I still want some treadwear and have a reasonably decent ride/NVH for daily driving. Best way is to run two sets but I don't want to deal with that hassle.

I think I'm set on my tire selection with the Michelin PSS. :)

pilot super sports are excellent, grip which surpasses the ps2s, more comfortable ride and their 30 000 mile treadlife guarantee (18 000 for staggered offset) gives some peace of mind. Wet handling is phenomenal and dry handling, I can pretty much mash my throttle to the floor with just a bit of tire squeal and it just hooks up now. Previously I'd have to feather the throttle up until about 40kph to avoid any unecessary tire spin.

Keep in mind the tires are a bit wider than most other brands of equivalent sizes eg. the 265/18/35s on my car are about as wide as 275 width tires from pirelli.

Other +'s they're cheaper than the ps2s, and if you're purchasing them I'd get them shipped from TireRack ($150 duty ) or just drive down to the states and get them from discount tire. All in all they cost me about $1100.

To sum up: Incredible tire, top notch performance and represents all of Michelin's advances in tire technology at an excellent price point.

my uncle was recently talking about the pilots he put on my aunts M45 2.5 years ago

they drive it a decent amount in the kootneys to calgary and back and he says he's measured the tread wear and it's almost worn down nothing over the 2.5 years hes had them, also says awsome grip in almost all conditions

I was thinking of running these tires for next summer. I have no complaints with my stock Bridgestone RE050A's, but the Super Sports are supposed to be better in every way, and they're cheaper to boot.

The super sports look to be a PS2 replacement and they've really hit the mark with pricing. Outperforms PS2 in every category and they're far cheaper too. Another tire I'd look at is the continental DW.

BUt basically in terms of grip they are the same


i got my friend to switch to DW on his 350z after he finished the ps2


Ps2 tread wear is like 240

while DW is 340


His only complains is DW sidewall is softer compare to ps2, and a tiny bit less in terms of feed back. However, dry/wet cornering ability is same/identical.


I also noticed the sidewall is slightly softer, but stiffer than SPT/V12, Falken 452 etc

The rain and dry is amazing, i went thru a lot of tires. These are definitely solid summer tires for an awesome price

Damn, the Continental ExtremeContact DW is currently backordered at Tirerack and Discount tire in the size I want.
Anyone know how often they get new shipments? Or anywhere else I can order them from?

If you've looked at the latest rankings on tirerack PSS placed first with Bridgestones coming in second. I'm not sure why you're talking about the PS2's still when this thread is about the Pilot Super Sports.

Pilot Super sports have dual tread tech and their twaron fiber to keep the tire as squared to the road as possible.

When it comes down to it, Conti's DW have slightly smoother ride comfort, but gets edged out by PSS in handlnig. I've never had a set long enough to wear out a set of Conti DW, but all I can attest to is I prefer the handling characteristics of the PSS. Paired with the mileage guarantee hopefully wil mean massively improved treadlife while still outperforming its predecssor.

So i could really careless about sidewall since i dont track or auto cross.


My no.1 concern is dry/wet cornering ability, as long as it grabs under all speed, im satisfied. Ride quality is good, quiet and comfy

also, not many people know this. But Continental has a 1-year warranty on anything that has the Continental brand on it. If within a year and your tire gets nailed to a point that it is not repairable (sidewalls, runflats/SSRs) they will gladly replace it for free thru reimbursement (save those invoices~!).

I do track and autocross, which is why I am asking about the PSS instead of the Conti DW. Yes, the Conti DW does ride better. However, if you check the latest Tire Rack test, it does fall behind either the Bridgestone S-04 or the PSS in ultimate grip.

And if your No.1 concern is "dry/wet cornering" ability you should be considering the PSS - it has higher ultimate grip than the DW and will grab at higher speeds than the DW.

Let me rephrase - I want something that will give me reasonable treadwear, reasonable ride quality/NVH and great traction within the Max Performance Summer class. I'd go for Star Specs, RS-3 or the R1R if my car was going to autocross or track often, but it's not, and I do drive my car a fair amount so I want tires that will last/not go bald very quickly. Also, I want a better ride quality than the Star Specs will give me - and less noise. I've ridden in cars equipped with Star Specs - not my choice for a DD tire... a little harsh/noisy for me.

And if I was a VW/German fanboy I'd be going Continental not Michelin. Wrong country there! Currently the PSS are the top performing tire within that category, hence my choice.

Performance not the same... but if you have to ask you should be ok with the Pilot Sport A/S - the Super Sports are not going to be good in cold/snowy conditions.

I had the Michelin PS2 RFT on my car for 2 years and this is what I found

Good:
Very very responsive
Great traction, and you can really feel how much more you can push the tires in a corner.
Ride comfort was good

Bad:
Very expensive
Doesn't last long
Ride comfort deteriorate after 60-70% tread wear...when I got to 5/32" tread, the ride was HORRIBLE, it is like riding in a car with a broken shock, very bumpy and noisy. (I really thought I have a bad shock)

Switched to Continental ExtremeContact DW last month.....never thought the tires can affect the ride comfort so much! (but then to be fair, the PS2 only had 4/32" tread left)
The DW is half the price of the PS2, and most people say the treadwear on the DW is much better than PS2, so you might wanna consider that if you are on a budget.

Traction are about the same. However, the handling on the DW just doesn't feel as "tight" as the PS2 for me.

I didn't realize how nice the PS2 tires look on the car until I had the Extremecontact DW on...


The DW looks kinda ugly when I first put it on lol...but you will get used to it.

Tire Rack is having a sale on the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics - $99 each in my size. Should I get these or the Pilot Super Sports? The F1's are a good, reputable tire and should provide 90% of the performance of the PSS... for half the price.
