Opening/Holding Doors For Women
Ronin

Am I old? Is this an archaic practice now? What say you, men and women of REVscene...well, men and the three girls that come here by accident.
Funny thing happened to me today.
Walking into a store, I noticed a girl coming in the opposite direction, heading into the same store so I open the door and hold it open. Now she isn't like...far away. She's right in front of the door but I just happened to get there first.
And...she proceeds to give me all kinds of feminist bullshit about how she can open her own door and how women aren't weak or whatever.
I'm like...:seriously:
I tell her I'm just doing it because...well, those are manners. I would've opened the door for anyone regardless of gender in the same situation.
We're still standing at the door, by the way...and about 30 seconds have elapsed of her ranting at me. Just as I say how I would've opened the door for anyone, an older dude in his 40s or 50s was heading into the same store. I open the door for him and he says "Thank you, sir.". I nod back and look back at the feminist chick.
I don't say anything. I'm still holding the door. She gives up with that noise women make when they're pissed but can't say anything and walks through.
I didn't think this was an issue, really. Have feminists ever given you shit?

Wow, that's even worse then when you hold a door for someone, and they don't thank you, and they give you a look like it was your job to hold it for them.

Fortunately I've never encountered any "feminist" types. Usually they just give me a smile and I nod back. I really don't understand why they would give you crap about it though, its simply human courtesy.
I guess shes one of those women who thinks everything has a hidden chauvinist meaning.
Or maybe she just had a really bad day LOL.

Probably that time of the month for her.
I usually exchange smiles or a get a thank you whenever I hold the door.

I sympathize, same thing happened to me once, first lady I held the door for said thanks, the second started a feminist rant.
Was also yelled at by a feminist another time at a Safeway when I saw a lady trying to deal with her two screaming kids and 6 bags of groceries, and I offered to help her carry them to her car.
I don't understand feminists. :fulloffuck:

Wow, some people in the world. I guess that kinda shows that you can't make everyone happy, even when trying to do the courteous thing!
I would have done the same thing as you and held the door for her. Good on you for not snapping on her though. It's always good to take the higher road. I would have done the same thing. I will continue to hold the door for any gender or age.
Common courtesy.

Should have just let go of the door and proceeded away after she said that bullshit.
I find the some elderly individuals are like that as well. Say they drop something and you help them retrieve it, they burst into anger saying how you think they are old and incompetant

Similar scenario happened to me about a week ago. I held the door for a lady pushing her kid in a stroller. Lady with the stroller goes in and there's another girl following her, so I held the door for her too. Might as well right? Wrong, she snapped at me saying she didn't need men to treat her differently and she was able to open the door herself. I told her, I had opened the door for the lady with the stroller, and because you were following her, I continued to hold the door and let you in first since I was ALREADY HOLDING IT. Like ForbiddenX said, for the most part I get a nod or a thank you, this applies both ways when other people do you a favor. It's just simple manners, get that through your head you cunt.
Should had asked her to walk back thru the door and slam it at her. Bitches be crazyyy

What a cunt. I hold the door all the time no matter who it is but if someone just blows by me without so much as a head knod or a thanks I'll shout out a, "you're welcome". It's pretty fucking simple, hold the door if you're first out and someone is coming in, say thank you if someone holds the door for you. I think for the most part people get it for those who don't eat a fat cock.
The cunt in your situation deserves to be smacked in the face with a big black dick and then pissed on.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Makes some people wonder what they're going through/been through for them to take a simple act of kindness and turn it into a personal attack... from a courteous stranger no less.

I've got this a lot. Never ran into a feminist though. Bitter bitches are bitter. Those probably have never been touched by men.
I guess it's just their personality. If they're a douche/bitch when they were young, they aint gonna change into nice people when they get old.
thats fucking retarded.. i always hold the door for the person behind me or even for the person coming the opposing direction if the situation calls for it.
i fucking hate the people who do not thank you for holding the door for them. the worst was when i held the door for a fucking c-lai and she bumped me on the way in and knocked my shades off in the process.
fucking bitch didnt even thank me and scratched up my shades

I'd like to believe it's just an isolated incident. I hold doors open all the time (due to my frequent proximity to doors in my day-to-day routines) and I've never had anybody give me any shit.
Fuck her, she's probably one of those self-righteous bitches that have taken one women's studies course in college and thinks she knows everything that's wrong with society today. I hold doors open for people yeah... after i walk through it first.
Unless they look like they physically need it, like some super old person or someone with their hands full, then no, even if i'm with a girl, i walk through first 80% of the time.
if it's one of those double doors like at a bank, if i walk through first and hold the door open, usually the person that walks through holds the second door open for me in some way or another.

Didn't you know chivalry died with womens rights?
Or you could just do what I do on dates, which is to run ahead and hold the door closed. If women are equals to men they should be at least able to open the door just a little.

Similar thing happened to my wife. She held the door open for a person in a wheelchair, and they bitched at her as they went by... like what the fuck, some people just want to be nice...
One time I tried to help a crippled little old man open a door, while they were opening it. He didn't know I was there (turns out he was also retarded, I didn't know this) and when I opened the door, he was still holding onto the handle, so went flying with the door! Almost knocked the poor guy onto his ass.. I felt bad about that, but my apologies went unheeded (he just kind of ignored me and continued on)
I still have the habit of holding the door open for people, and usually they thank me. In crowded ares in hong kong though, you will get 300 people trying to shove through the narrowed opening, so you have to be careful or you'll get run over. Hong kong people will do ANYTHING POSSIBLE to not have to open a door. They do this thing I call the "hong kong shuffle" where they slide through the narrowed opening possible. Whenever I see a door slowly closing, with 4 or 5" of space left, I always look for someone to do it. And 90% of the time, somone does it! If there is at least 0.1cm of space left for them to fit through, they'll slide through it sideways.
I know I know, cool stories bro.. I'm bored at work :troll:

Wow, that sucks. She must be one of those proactive fems who hates the world, or hates herself so much she is looking for a fight.
Like the saying goes, "you can't love other people, if you don't love yourself".
Then again, some people are just rude. Myself, I open doors, say thank you, your welcome, etc. Other day I had a full load in my hands, was following some guy into my apartment, and he just slams the door in my face. It was so rude, I actually had a laugh.
The one good thing though, is that it tends to be older people who are rude. Say what you want about the newest generation, but from what I see, they do show some manners.

I hold the door regardless of who it is. If it's a family, I'll hold the door. If I see someone's coming out of a store, I hold the door for them. I just give other people the right of way to avoid the awkward confusion of both trying to pass through a doorway at the same time.
Likewise, if I see someone coming through a door behind me, I'll hold the door for them, or at least hold it ajar so they can come through and just hold the door open instead of having to re-open it.
It's simple common sense and manners.

Wow that was totally uncalled for. What a bitch. No shit she can open her own door, but its a common act of courtesy to open it for others. I'm all for feminism, but some women take it too far and turn it into man hating. Imagine being her husband. Jesus.
Don't let a thing like that stop you from opening doors for others. Small gestures like holding open doors and comments like "ladies first" don't go unnoticed by women.
I don't mind opening my own doors, but I definitely appreciate when anybody holds a door open for me and I always say 'thanks.' Chivalry is definitely less common now, especially in men under 35, I've noticed. Might be why I appreciate it so much when men do simple things such as a gesture for you to enter or exit elevators first, or to go through a doorway first. It's not that it's necessary, its just a nice little bonus.

I had the opposite happen to me the other day
Been taught as a child that you should hold the door for anyone; which I still do.
But as I was leaving Richmond Center last week, I heard a woman bitching at a man about the fact that females can take care of themselves and they can shatter the glass ceiling if they wanted to.
After hearing that I decided that I won't hold the door for her as I dont want to get an ass chewing like the previous man did.
I open the door but only just enough so I can squeek by. As the door is closing the woman walks into the door with the "thud"
I look around and the woman glares at me and launches into a rant about all males are assholes and do not treat females properly.
The man she previously chewed out and I changed glances and we were both :seriously:
The best part was the other man then said matter of factly, "the glass door represents the glass ceiling that holds bitches like you away from ever progressing"

Haven't had anything like that happen to me, but I've had a few people (I don't just hold doors open only for women, I do it equally if there's someone a reasonable distance behind me) just walk by and walk off...
Being the easily frustrated guy that I am, I give em a sarcastic "you're welcome" and the finger when they turn back.

Should've yelled "Thank you Captain Obvious!" and saluted her when she said she can open her own doors

When I open doors for people, I do it out of courtesy because that's what my parents/grandparents taught me to do. I don't understand why people get so offended when they don't get acknowledged.
The thing that really peeves me are those people who are really far away, and when they notice that you are about to let go of the doors, they start sprinting towards the door.

Weird, I just hold the door open regardless of men or women. I rarely get thank you's but I dunno. Force of habit. If I get bitched out, I would just ream out the feminist whore.

SAME shit happened to me in richmond two weeks ago. Me and two friends are walking out of an apartment building, and my friend holds open the door for an older chinese lady who is waiting to use her fob key to get in. Instead of a thank you, the bitch goes, "i can open the door myself, dont be so rude", in the snottiest manner possible. What surprised me even more was her english which was spot on perfect..
Like..... wtf... lol

I'm surprised you stood there for 30 seconds listening to her.
I never actually hold the door open... as in letting someone go in first.
I occasionally go through the door, and maybe hold it behind me,
prolonging it from closing for the person walking behind me.
Interestingly enough, about a month ago, I was walking into a building with glass doors on a sunny day.
I clearly could see no one was behind me from the door reflection. So I entered through the building...
about 10 steps later, some old lady in her 60s or 70s ninja'd me from nowhere, and started bitching.
"Why did you slam the door on me? You young people should know some manners to hold the door for people"
By reaction, I just said "oh sorry..." in my head I was thinking. WTF? where you come from?!!!

Obviously there's only one explanation.
She was a vampire.
A vampire ninja.

i haven't read the thread yet, but here's what happened to me a couple of days ago.
i had just opened up a door (which requires a key card) and checked behind me like usual to see if anyone is coming. i saw this middle aged white lady carrying two cups of coffee not far behind me. so, of course, i held the door open for her. but get this, she didn't even fucking look at me, let alone acknowledge what i had done for her or thank me.
seriously, wtf?
:seriously:
Should of tripped her!! ^^

next time tell her to calm down....
head back to the kitchen and make her man a sandwich :fullofwin:
i do not hold the door open for certain ethnic groups because they do not say a simple "thank you" so why should i waste my time/effort how ever small it may be to hold the door open for you if it goes unappreciated

Meh, they are the type of people who would bitch if you don't open the door for them. Its a lose-lose for bitchy self-centered people.

I hold open doors and elevators all the time. It's just an automatic reaction. If people acknowledge my action. Great. If they don't. Whatever. I'm not looking for appreciation. I'm just trying to practice common courtesies, and not be a self-centered dickhead.

Happened to me in my old work place and one of the butch Managers. She didn't yell, although she did state that as a woman, she can open the door herself.
I told her "As a man, I was raised to be chivalrous to women. That means, opening doors, not hitting women, and when I have a wife and a lot of kids, taking care of them to the best of my ability. That's how my mother raised me".
She was like "oh, you have a good mom"...

Same thing happened to me once. I was walking towards the doors at the place where I work; the doors are glass. I saw a girl behind me, so I opened the door and stepped off to the side to let her go through first, just 'cause I'd been having a good day to that point. Suddenly, she starts yelling at me: "What do you think you're doing?! You think that just because I'm a woman I can't open a door? It's pigs like you that think women still belong in the kitchen with bare feet!" and then stormed through the still open door. I just sort of stood there for a few seconds, not sure what to do or what to think. So I walk into my building and towards the elevator where she was waiting too. I stood just a bit off to the side, and smiled. Rode the elevator up with her and told her to have a good day.
Assholes seethe even more when you're nice to them. It hasn't stopped me from opening doors for girls; some bitches just be crazy yo.

This. I just hold it because it's just a habit, most of the time people say thank you to me but if they don't I don't care. No loss of karma for being courteous.
