As impressive as that is, I can't believe how dated it looks. That's some old school technology in there.

do you guys know that...
The computer that runs the space shuttle...
1.) has less than 1% of the power of a Xbox 360? (so... that's like less than 10% of your average smartphone on the market)
2.) Runs on 1MB of RAM

i imagine they wouldn't want to make it dependent on software/computers
I wonder how many of those switches/buttons they actually use on a flight
oh and its nice seeing that "CANADA" banner in the rear

So many switches and buttons considering the thing practically flys itself.
...And I wanted to be an Astronaut when I was a kid.

pretty good considering that they started thinking about this in the late '60's with the shuttle being designed in the '70's.
back then, computers were the size of fridges.
just think what NASA has in the works now considering how far technology has progressed in the past four decades.
edit: then again, the USA's budget crisis might put NASA on the backburner....

Agreed n your first sentence. Also, they would be limited to available energy when they are out in the space. Yes I know they can do solar power...but REMEMBER, they are in space...not at home.
So of course function > design
if they can run their things with 1MB of ram, then why would they over kill it with 2MB?
