so novus is now offering their full line of servises to my building and i'm wondering if i should switch or just try and milk shaw for free shit to get me to stay?

novus is offering new subscribers in my building crazy deals on 100Mbps internet, free hd pvr's plus they will reprogram my old pvr to work on their network and home phone with more features then i'm getting currently with shaw for a lot less then i'm currently paying? i've also found article from the cbc saying that shaw is doing everything they can to undercut novus' prices and match offers and ish.

so, to novus or not to novus?

novus aparently has really good sutomer service and i havn't found a bad review yet.

I love Novus - great customer service, great price, competitive programming packages... no complaints after 1.5 years with them.

shaw doesnt have a very good retentions program from my experience. they rather just let you go. imo, telus has a pretty good retention program. that being said, try negotiating with shaw and if they dont match, switch to novus. you might have better luck than i did.

go with novus very fast for what you are paying. good customer service. I'm happy with then.

Is novus better in terms of reliability compared to Shaw ? The net keeps on going out on me quite regularly now.

I had Shaw when I lived in Richmond. Novus in downtown was definitely more reliable for me. The upside of going to Shaw is that they offer these cheap plans for the first 6 months then after 6 months it's cheaper to go with Novus.

I've been using novus for a few years now, been going out lately because they just upgraded their service. Slowest speed they offer just got bumped from up 20mbps download to 25mbps and 10mbps upload. Comparing to Shaw, Novus slowest speed (fibrenet20) download is the same speed as Shaw extreme, and Novus upload speed if that is important for you.. is 4x faster than shaw extreme and 2x faster than Shaws higher end Broadband 100.

The only outage I've experienced in the past 1.5 years was a couple weeks ago, when they were upgrading their network to support the bump in bandwidth for all of their subscribers (I was on the 20/10, 110GBs cap plan and it's now 25/10 with a 150GBs cap). I guess if you don't like monthly caps and do download a lot, then you may run into some issues with Novus, as they have hard caps (you can't use the internet if you hit your cap and have to pay first before you can use it again).

Otherwise... no complains with Novus. They matched every single offer that Telus, Rogers, or Shaw had come up with when I called them... Right now I'm paying $28 for Basic HDTV + sports channels HD + 25mbps down/10mbps up internet - can't complain!

I have Novus and used to have Shaw before. Novus is definitely better in terms of customer service and speed. And like many other said, their upload speed is crazy.

They did an upgrade few weeks back and that was the only time the net has been out during the day. If it suddenly gets slow or going in and out, you can call their customer service and get it fixed in under 5 minutes and that's not exaggerating.

My building in Burnaby-Brentwood has had Novus for 3 years. There's really no reason not to go to Novus if it's available unless you have issues with a hard cap. I've had only one unannounced service outage during the time I've been with them and that was only about a month ago. As others have mentioned, they're in the process of upgrading their infrastructure, so service outages (announced of course) have been a bit more frequent. They are good at giving you plenty of advance notice when they need to suspend internet service.

im in richmond and...best move ever. we started looking elsewhere after shaw started being all anal about enforcing download limits. not only does telus give us more cap, but its cheaper, with more channels and a pvr which we didnt have before, and ended up being the best part of it all. we bought a pvr rather than leasing it

didnt have any issues with internet nor tv so far (6 months i think)

I just switched back to novus after my shaw promo ended. I asked shaw retentions if they could do anything to match novus' promo (net 20 + HD tv for $45) and they said no, so I said see ya to shaw.

But yes, novus internet is a LOT faster than shaw. Am getting approx 20-25mb download.

I think mine took a day or two after I called it in - I had my own HD terminal already so all I had to do was plug in the coaxial cable and let it download the programming guide and etc. No one came into my suite to do anything... just had my user info on a piece of paper that's all.

Quick and easy.

haha just called shaw to cancel. they asked me why i wanted to cancel, and i told her that shaw's extreme package was $59 standalone where as novus same spec package was at $37.50.

she said "so its speed and overpriced for shaw?" i said yes. then she totally shitted on why novus was cheaper "oh novus has limited customer and tech support, thats why its cheaper there". she wanted me to go with their broadband 50 and i said "uh, its $74 standalone since i don't want anything else from shaw unless you can get that for me for $59" :troll:

no counteroffer and she said, the disconnection date will be aug 6. can't wait for novus and really get 25Mbps.

I've only called tech/customer support 4 times over the past year and a half and each time someone picked up the phone within 5 minutes of waiting, took care of business right away and everyone's happy.

Shaw's just shitting their pants cuz they can't compete :fullofwin:

From what I've read, novus can reprogram your box to shaw. But if you ever want to switch back to shaw, you're hooped.

Been using Novus for a year and they're great. Had an outage one time and they automatically credited my bill (heck I didn't even know it went out). Been with Shaw for over a decade and I'd count my lucky stars if they don't attempt to screw me over.

Another great thing about Novus is they give out a lot of channels for free trials. I don't watch a lot of tv to find all of them, but I'm at least getting fairchild and movie channel free of charge lately.

Bullshit. I use a PVR that was originally a Shaw box, which was reprogrammed for use on Novus, and was then brought back to Shaw.

Once I plugged the box in, I just forced it to download the Shaw firmware. Power + Select + plug-in the power cable. Once it was done downloading, called Shaw to have it refreshed.

Newer boxes, like DCX3400 / 3200, will require a call to get a download command sent.

this is not even a debate, go with Novus! a lot of people I know are trying to lobby for novus to come to their buildings.

they are owned by one of the developers (concorde? or concert or something like that) so those buildings are setup already.

They do but if have the box orginally form Shaw then they have to re-activate in their system. However the new models such is DCX 3510 and DCX 3200 Phase 2 have Sha's custom firmware on it and it will only work on Shaw.

The one advantage of living in a shoebox is that we get access to Novus while all of you "suckers" in detached homes are stuck with Shaw and Telus.

Customer service is very good (I've been on hold a maximum of 5 minutes in the 5+ years I've had the service) and speeds are always consistent. The only downside is that there is a hard cap and if you go over, you need to pay more or have your speed decreased.

telus customer service sucks and its only an eventuality that you would have to call and deal with them, so why bother?. Shaw is much better in terms of customer service but if you can get novus do it because the service is pretty solid that i never even have to deal with them for technical support.
