Truly messed up

As the world’s second largest economy, China is home to 189 billionaires, almost one million millionaires… and a horde of desperate, single and available, young women. This is to be read carefully however; these women are not desperate for a shot at love, but rather for a chance to improve their lives. This is where Beijing Moral Education Center for Women can provide help.
Although the name of the school may suggest otherwise, its objective is simple enough: to help women marry rich. For 20,000 yuan ($3,080), students are taught the techniques to make themselves more attractive by “enhancing their personal qualities”, including conversation skills, personality development, and even make-up and traditional tea-pouring techniques.
Since its opening in August 2010, the school has enrolled over 2,800 mostly middle class women. Armed with the techniques learnt from the 30 hours of training, many hope that they will be able to meet men with higher standards, meaning “those who have achieved a certain level of success and promotion in their career”. When asked, many of the students do believe that marrying a rich man can solve their financial worries and help them climb social ladders.
On the other hand, wealthy bachelors have also approached the school to find the girl of their dreams. Some have even spent up to a hefty 30,000 yuan ($4,650) as an introductory fee. But perhaps that was money well spent for some, as the school claims it has successfully matched 30 couples that resulted in marriage in the past months.
