Michele Cake Shop in Richmond. Its right across the public market. Their cakes are so light and fluffy.

My gf always makes me drive to Anna's cake house every year to pick up a cake for her father. He's an executive chef, so it must be good.
I like the ones covered in mango slices.

I've had good experiences with Anna's, St. Germain (multiple locations) and Maxim's. Pine House is okay but their consistency among their various locations isn't quite there.

Yan's Bakery.
Small mom and pop shop on Hastings near Victoria Drive.
Have to order in advance. You won't regret it.
Used them for our wedding cake, and now get cakes from them for all special occasions.

not a fruit cake, but if you want to something different at a chines bakery go to Maxim's and try their "Napolean" cake.
It's layers of puff pastry with cream filling.
I order these now instead of the usual "chinese" cakes for people's birthdays

Got our wedding cake from this place. And we love their mango crepes there too.
Prices are a tad higher than the usual bakeries I think. But quality is good.

Pinehouse bakery on Kingsway is good.
The one in Crystal mall is good too. Same bakery, different owner.
