Depends what laptop you're planning to get. If you're using it for travelling/entertainment wise and want something portable, I'd go with iPad

Travelling/entertainment & consumption of content definitely iPad 2.
If you plan on doing any actual work then a laptop.

Just for travelling and entertainment - get an ipad.
For travelling and entertainment plus school and work - laptop.

Asus eee Pad Transformer :)

this has been discussed many times before. the ipad is a consumption device. to produce on it you'll need to make compromises.
since everyone is different, what exactly do you plan on doing on the electronic device when you travel? d/l stuff? edit stuff? VNC? or just games, music, and video?

I got an Acer Tablet and it's good enough for traveling, my last few trips I didn't need to bring my laptop with me at all (which means less to carry on the plane, which is always win).
I wouldn't ever use it as my primary but when I'm mobile it's very handy (especially if I load it up with video to keep the kiddo happy while I'm traveling).

It's more work to get iPod formatted videos on if you torrent stuff. I'm a big fan of 10 inch netbook-cpu laptops for that price range. VLC yo :)

Ah but if you go with the Acer or Asus on Android, you can play flash just fine and run most vid types.
And they're both cheaper than the ipad.

You may want to consider Android tablets. Don't forget apps. The iPad offers a huge selection of apps compared to Android.
For convenience... definitely the iPad over a laptop.

VLC can play anything on iOS now except rmvb's. AVPlayer and Goodplayer plays even 720p content and rmvb's. Flash does becpme a big deal when u stumble upon sites that u need on the go. There's 360, Perfect browser, and skyfire, and the flash hack in cydia, but some sites with flash still refuse to work. But hey, if it's strictly for entertainment this shouldnt b a big deal. U'd b surprised how many ppl wonder if u can pps, qvod, qqlive, xinlei, etc. on the ipad or alike.

for those of you who are not jailbroken or missed the appstore availability of VLC... there is a new vid player on the appstore for 99cents:
AZUL MEDIA PLAYER
pretty much same thing as VLC with drag/drop support of videos via itunes.

If you plan on doing anything other than reading or watching shows, or playing video games, then get a laptop. Otherwise, the ipad is a fantastic travel companion :)
For non "Apple Approved" videos, I use AVPlayerHD. Works well

Ipad is the heavily supported with software, wouldn't consider many other tablets before it.
