i think the general census here is people wouldn't squander all the money and just have possessions that depreciate, the smart 120k'er would make the money turn into more money, and then spend the profits on the previously thought of squandering items, or once again, reinvest to make the old and new money make more money.

Sorry, I realize I wasn't 100% clear in what I said. If I only had $120k it would be spread around the exact same way with the only difference being that I'd still have a small mortgage. In reality I have a little more invested so my place is paid for but I still choose to "live small".
