: Playland / PNE tips and hacks

I'm planning to go to playland and the fair later this month.

I haven't gone the past few years and pretty much forgot what's there to check out anymore...

- Any must check out rides?
- anything to avoid? (games that have odds totally stacked against you, food etc.)
- any tips with regards to parking, games, etc

The only time I've won a "big" prize was shooting the air rifle at a paper target with a star on it; you're supposed to shoot off every bit of the star. I simply took my time and sprayed a nice big circle around the star.

you can either get the coupon printed or they hand it out at the front of the gate on tuesdays, playland after 2pm costs 10.58 for admission. A must try ride is definitely the Atmosfear. its the new ride at playland this year, pretty much a giant version of the swing set going 70 km/h. Such a sick view while on it.

Only thing I go there for is mini donuts, jerk chicken and to play the bowling ball game. I don't even know why I bother with the latter, even if I always win - the prizes just sit around for 6 months til I can find someone to give them to.

Anyone know about free passes (during PNE) through the casinos or using Gold Cards?

haha i went with 2 of my cousins last summer, since it was the 100 year anniversary, they were giving out ps3's for the "big prizes".

we got to that game and me and 1 cousin took the 2 very end guns while my other cousin took the gun at the other end of the table....and he pretended to be having problems with it not shooting, so while the attendant was helping him, me and my other cousin were shooting out the same star :p but we got caught hahahaha, maybe we'll have better luck this year :p

There's a trick to the ladder game - except I don't know it. :(

The trick to the ladder game is,tell the person who is running the game to not hold the ladder for you when you begin. There is a reason behind it.

If you try without the person holding the ladder for you during the first few steps going up the ladder, your body will balance itself each step of the way,but if you have the person hold the ladder for you,you will lose all balance the second he/she takes their hands off the ladder, then off you fall. Also when climbing the ladder, spread your arms and legs out for more stability, move up the ladder doing a sequence, like right arm+left leg then left arm+right leg.

Hastings Racecourse players will be allowed to enter the grounds through gates 6 and 10 with their HPI (Horse Player Interactive/ Incentive) cards.

VIP guests from the Casino needs to get passes from the Casino for the fair.

Well these 50cc's can be massively fussy, everything has to be perfect for it to run. I bought one of them on craigslist, had the same problem, would not start however i tried. Mine was a lemon with a bad spark plug and a clogged carburetor. Make sure you're using 94 octane gas, mixed with 2 stroke oil.

For the jumpshot game, if you buy $10 (4 shots, I think) you're guaranteed a small one. In fact, even if you hit all your shots, you still only get a small one.
:fulloffuck:

And I won a jumbo toy from whack a mole. $5 a game, but I had to pay for my little brother's game too. $10 for a jumbo toy, not bad, not bad. There was only Southpark toys, so I traded it at another stand where they had minions. So did anyone of you guys play this and beat it??

I just came back from Playland... but didn't try it...
I was watching so many people fail, because they didn't realize that it's pretty much impossible to do with the staff holding the bottom for you.
Then it almost angered me as I watched the staff show-off how easy it is to do as he demonstrated over and over again
(obviously without anyone holding the bottom). I noticed they also mount on from the side, where their hands are already half way up the ladder.
Unlike how most people mount on from the bottom, and try to crawl up.

I was really tempted to try, and show people how it's done (while exploiting their trick) by telling the staff to not hold on the bottom for me...
but I was too worried that I would still fall off regardless due to inexperience, then making me seem like an arrogant fool...

I'm sure it would still take me at least a few climbs without the staff holding on before I get the hang of it.

It's one of those things that with a little practice, your body will learn how to balance... but extremely difficult going in cold turkey never having done it before.

Once you get it, it'll be a piece of cake. That's why the game sign says limit one win per person per year.

The Led Zeppelin tribute band was good, so if you feel like a free rock show you could probably catch at least an hour of it.

Won a big domo on Friday. This was at the game where you try to toss 2 balls into the bucket without bouncing out. First try, I got 3 balls in a row because he said it was a rebound shot when I bounced it off the rim to keep it in.
I played it again later and for some reason, the balls felt different. And I missed all 3 shots.

:noob: they hold it till you get half way just to give you hope. most people would fall off as soon as all four limbs are off the ground/mat :fullofwin:

yeah, I think the problem with the staff not holding the bottom
would mean you would fall off just trying to mount on, until you get enough practice.

But having the staff holding on at first, then letting go mid way,
means it's near impossible to win the game.

On Youtube, all the videos of the winners don't have any staff holding on at the bottom.
But those ladder games are designed a bit differently. Where the bottom is on the "ground"
so it's stable until you climb further up.

Which game is the easiest to get a jumbo prize on an individual play?

Every year I win something from Crossbow.

Use the third bow from the left, the sights are most accurate on that one. Fire once, compensate once, maybe twice. If you have any aim you can win one in $15.

The more expensive ones are easier to win. Cheaper ones are harder. They're there to take your money.

For example, I was there all day last Saturday, and the ring toss game ($5 for a bucket of rings) had one winner the entire day.

I won ring toss once, back in 2007. A nice big Patrick (from spongebob). I try again every year, but haven't won since.

Did it almost 20 years ago. I took all my rings and tossed 'em all at once. Got a jumbo purple dragon.

I think I tried it a second time and failed.:okay:

Anyone know if the bowling ball game is there this year? The one where it's on rails and you have to push it over an incline and into a valley, w/ it coming back or hitting the back?

I usually win enough stuffies for all the nieces and nephews for under $30, before getting banned from it.

I won years ago on that game, similar method. Buddies just grabbed handfulls of rings and started tossing them all at once. Went through the bucket in about 10 seconds but one miraculously landed. The guy running the game even tried to accuse me of jumping the rail and placing a ring on the bottle, that's how dead set they were against giving out a prize. Much arguing later I got a Giant blu bumble bee (not the transformers kind)

If you're a decent pool player...the 4 ball pool game is quite easy. Too bad you cant win jumbo sizes anymore cause every good pool player was abusing it haha...only large size now for $10 a try.

Trick with 4 ball pool is to break gently so that all 4 balls are close together. After the break you should already know which course of action you'll need to win.
The 2 top corners give you the desired distance and angle...side pockets and 2 lower corners means your break was too hard...making it more difficult....stay away from side pockets!

I suggest you play a couple $2 games to get a feel of the table and stick before you bet $10 or practice at a pool hall and test yourself first. They nerfed the prizes...so it's up to you if you think it's worth it.

I said it last year, and Ill say it again. Whack-a-mole is the easiest game there if u have quick hand/eye coordination. And always wait till 9 other players are there, and be the 10th. Best prices for your buck.

Ugh I tried the crossbow thing, I tried to take up the slack in the trigger but didn't realize how much of a hair trigger it had. It shot before I even had a chance to focus :fuuuuu:

Spent a solid $15 on the shoot out the star thing too. A friend told me it's best to shoot around the star instead of right at it. I was so close but some of the shreds were hanging on by just a hair :okay:

^Some chick was there beside me and she shot completely off the target, even missed the rice sack holding the target.

The attendant kid was so terrified that he went completely white. He was filipino too hahaha

Idk something about winning the prize for a gf or a friend just makes it feel so exhilerating than buying it for $20. Just me but I mean I would really buy it if I got desperate and go to gf and be like "hey babe, I just won this for you but you just didn't see it :troll:"

just a little heads up for those going to the pne this year. The 22nd is Van city day which means fair admission is only $5 throughout. Children under 13 get in for free as always and just a tip for some of the parents; never buy tickets. Those eventually cost more than buying ride passes.

Entrance to PNE with rides are NEVER a good deal. The rides will always be packed during the fair period. Best is to go pre or post fair for rides and the fair just for shows and shit. I went to PNE a couple of weeks ago on a weekday and line ups were hardly any. All under 5 minutes before 12 noon and under 10 minutes later in the day (even for the hellavator)
