u need proper skates.. ur ice skates are probably worse than your inlines.. and your inlines have NO ankle support.. go buy some decent used ones. they should be 2 sizes smaller than your street shoes (street shoes that are properly fitting, not thugged out 1 size too big)

8 rinks has a special 105/h + tax but you need to buy three at a time. So still for two hours that's only 30 bucks a person for three sessions. But the times are not the best. Lots of early morning week days or late night week days.

Honestly, tha majority of pickups i go to roughly have 3 lines up front and 4 on D. Just ensure people skate hard and get off, and don't coast around.. ahem.. raybot, ahem... haha

Let's just pick this date tentatively... Wednesday, August 24, 2011 10:45pm-12:00am @ 8 Rinks Rink 6. I want to cap it at 10 skaters and 1 goalie per side (total 22 players) just because this is only a 75min rental. Will divide up the total cost amongst all the skaters (goalies play for free of course.) It will be $15 or less.

I've never rented before but if there is at least 80% interest I would consider putting down a reservation. Does anyone know how the insurance works? Do I need to get it separately or is it factored into the rental cost?

I don't have a log-in for Vancouver Parks Board yet so I don't know what times would be available if you guys want to play at Hillcrest.

I guess I'll start a sign up sheet... hopefully by the time we have enough interest the rink will still be available for booking.

Please indicate if you are a goaltender otherwise it's safe to assume you are a skater. Let's keep it to Revscene members for now but if we don't have enough players we can open it up to friends/family as well.

mickz, insurance is a choice that you have. you can either get it from them and it gets added to the rental cost or if you have a third party insurance you can use that as well. Insurance is not that expensive ($25-$30 i believe) and definitely worth getting in case of "accidents".

Everyone please bring both a light and a dark jersey to the bench in case the game becomes lop-sided. If you guys want to start making trades beforehand, go for it.

If you're on this list I expect you to show up as the cost per player will change if people start to bail. If you are a MAYBE at this point I would rather you confirm with a definite yes or definite no instead. With the numbers we have now, 20 skaters, it will be $12/person.

I also called 8 Rinks and the lady said majority of people don't buy insurance for one-time rentals... I don't mind getting the insurance but it will obviously add to the cost as well. So nobody die or get hurt please... or if you do, don't sue me.

Who added the guys without usernames? Are they coming for sure? I'm renting ice for the first time with guys from my work and I'm having problems with people bailing out at the last minute. Not only does this make the benches even shorter but it also punishes the people who do show up to pay a bit more. I would prefer if people who can't make it anymore either give at least 24 hours notice or find their own replacements.

Just come early to warm up. They allow you to start skating prior to your slotted time I think. I know they do at RIC.

They will cut you off exactly at your allotted time.
And you cannot step on the ice before the resurfacing finishes (dont you wanna wait for ice to dry first anyways).

Remember, there is NO INSURANCE for this event. While I don't think anybody intends on going out there just to hurt people, accidents do happen. Play at your own risk! I cannot be held liable should you get hurt on the ice.

We have the ice from 10:45pm-12:00am @ Rink #6. I don't know which rooms we will have yet so please look on the screens at the lobby. Go in whichever room has space. We will have about a very small amount of time to warm up the goalies. As soon as they are ready we will drop the puck and play. Please don't deke the goalies or shoot at them when they're not looking at you in the warm up... it's poor etiquette and it increases the chance of injury.

The pay scale remains the same... it will be the total cost of the rental divided by the number of players. Exact change will be appreciated unless you want a ton of loonies in return.

Under 15 skaters = $16+
15 skaters = $15/each
16-17 skaters = $14/each
17-18 skaters = $13/each
19-20 skaters = $12/each

Great fun there tonight even if I spent most of my time falling on my ass, whiffing on the easiest passes, skating around like a headless chicken, and whatnot- but damn if it wasn't a good workout! I started to straight upload the helmet cam video to youtube when I got home last night. Good thing I took breaks during the game and turned the camera off so the video is in 4 sections without me doing any video editing, cause I am just too exhausted to do any of that today.
3 hours of sleep and I am back at work now. =(

I know one of the video's finished uploading when I left for work. Might be able to search for it as RS epic hockey night a,b,c,d. Or I will link it tonight when I get home from work.

Where do u take ur lessons? I was thinking bout hitting up killarney. Get the basics down lol, learn how to pivot, crossover, stride etc

the game def seems slower when you watch it from the outside.. imagine how fast the game is at the nhl level.

Don't forget, the wide angle lense on the camera distorts things a bit. For example, when I shoot the puck, I am watching it go towards the net and seems to take forever for the puck to get there.
In the video, it looks like I am shooting 100 mph bullets.
