I know there is a thread already about tips and tricks at playland, but this is for the Annual Fair at the PNE.

This year, kids 13 and under get in free. Not a big deal, really, as students in Elementary traditionally got passes from school every year in June. PNE no longer have to deal with stupid passes. Just let the rug rats in, since they bring in so much money anyway.

This year's free admission day for adults is on Monday, the 22nd, from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. You get in before the noon deadline, get your hand stamped and you're good to go all day long with in and out privileges.

So, anyone on RS working the PNE?

And the dumb thing is that free admission day is traditionally on Saturday. As a result, parents that typically go on that first Saturday with their kids will now have to pay to get in, or they will need to take a day off work to take advantage of that offer! :flamemad:

I'm looking forward to the 1st Annual Rib Festival Competition. I looked on their website, but couldn't find the lumber show or demolition derby - there goes tradition. Actually, demolition hasn't been around for a long time.

The pyro show is back. I enjoyed that last year.

i'm going down to an awesome theme park just outside of seattle next weekend and for $40 you get entrance into both of the parks they have...an amusement park and a water park. And in my opinion it is far more fun than the pne. could be that the thrill of something new and exciting is just that...new and exciting. still better bang for the buck though.
it's called Wild Waves btw. all the rides are spread out through the forest. so cool.

if i were only going with her, i am NOT down to wake up super early to beat everyone to the border, then drive for another 2 hours to go on rides me and my gf have been on at disneyland and the CNE, then drive another 2 hours back to wait in a border line that who knows how long will take.

BTW, free parking along Hastings on a weekday is totally doable. Eastbound parking along Hastings becomes available at 6pm. There's No Parking from 3 pm to 6 pm, because of rush hour. If you time it right (few minutes before 6), you can find a spot. Someone will start early and cause a bit of a jam. I haven't done this for a couple of years. Perhaps others who have done so recently can update the rest of us on the situation. I can see some people taking up spots with 10 minutes left to go, LOL.

Nothing like the smell of the PNE. Food, with urine from bathrooms and animal smells combined with cheap perfume and.......... almost as good as the smell of VHT and burnt rubber on asphalt.


And........... those mini donuts. I can eat at least a couple hundred of them things - soooo good. I think next summer meet, RS organizers should rent one of those machines and have a mini donut eating contest. Apparently, it's a good money maker.

Forgot to mention....... I met Jodi Vance at one of the media booths. She was doing a live radio show. Anyway, we got talking about her dad and whatnot. Very down to earth gal with lots of energy and a bubbly personality. And yes, she was kind of hot, I have to admit. Looks much nicer in real life.

BBQ at the PNE this year is amazing. Haven't had such good BBQ since I was in Memphis.

Tried all 5 operators. The pulled pork and ribs from Gator's were probably my favorite. Brisket sandwich from Smoke and Bones was also good, and the ribs from QN4U were also pretty heavenly.

All lots are full it seems like. Better to park on hastings and bus here. Parking on a friday night is hard to find.

She looked harmless, so we let her get in and the car was fine when I picked it up at 9pm. She greeted us when we left too. Oh chinese ladies. Everything turned out better than expected.

Usually if you wait around for 10 minutes or so you'll be able to get a spot in the top lot at the PNE. Better then circling and circling and circling anyway.

I saved the $20 in parking and parked on the side street about a block from the Mcdonalds where it wasn't resident only parking. It's a 10 minute walk but whatever. The best part of the PNE for me was watching my son get on the kids version of the hellevator having no idea what it was and screaming like a girl with a look of genuine fear for his life everytime it dropped. I was laughing so hard I actually had tears in my eyes.

Had a blast yesterday as well! Went to Gator's BBQ and got the rib + pulled pork combo. Share with a friend and load up on sawwwws.

Oh, and if you paid full admission, I recommend watching the Chinese Acrobatics show. I was pretty impressed and I would pay $16 just to watch it.

I tried the shooting star game and the accuracy of the pellet gun was TERRIBLE.. it was firing all over the place.. I remember it being better :S maybe it was the gun? And the ladder game is tough, I watched vids on youtube on how to do it but still failed lol

The prairies had a bit of a sweeter taste, so i liked the N Van one better.

The one I tried yesterday was gators. I got the $18 rib + pulled pork combo with a side of potatoes for $1. It was pretty friggin' amazing and good for two.

Yeah, it was pretty good actually, just.. very big.. it's basically a giant 2ft hotdog with chilli, cheese, sauce, onions, green pepper and bacon. they use one giant wiener instead of multiple smaller ones.

It was $25, which sounds a lot for a 2ft hotdog, but relative to all the other food prices at PNE, i would say it was about average for the amount of food you got.

I've tried gators and the one next to it, prairie something I think.

Gators gave me the best deal, $20 for the vegetarian nightmare, he also loaded me up with extra everything, maybe cause I work there? Didn't ask.
Sauce was good, but wasn't the best meat. Ribs didn't fall off the bone, pulled pork was a bit tougher, brisket was almost %50 fat.
Tasted good though.

Same platter at Prairie place (Beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs)
Also got a side of beans and coleslaw. extra $1 per side, one included. so cost $23.
Ribs fell off the bone, pork was tender. brisket was juicy meat with just a thin fat cap.

Top off the night with getting a bunch of drunk idiots evicted by force and it's a good day for me.

Want to try the other 2 bbq places but dunno if I want to spend another $44.
I might try the tri tip at the last stand on the left. Always liked that cut.
