OK, how about the left lane at Mission Raceway Park? Blew the motor when I engaged the nitrous a little too early. First car of the night on one of the first Street Legal events ever at MRP. Delayed the event for about 45 minutes. When the track guys found out I had nitrous, they all freaked out. I guess noob crew for the street legals, 'cause the day crew would have been cool with it. Pretty memorable night, LOL. Cursing all the way home in the tow truck.

not weird but funny when my dads corolla had a flat in front of canadian tires in COQ at 8pm at night, so then we then walked in to buy a new tire but we can installed them cuz they closed so we were like "damn it" then we change to the spare
right after the change we popped another tire & we were like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU :fuuuuu: then had the car tow which cost use quite a bit

The gf and I just came back from a road trip to San Diego.
On the way down, the plastic mud guard that covers the wheel well started to drag on the ground.
Had to get it fixed at a repair shop in Lost Hills. I can not even make this up. Lost Hill is name of the town. No one spoke English; only Spanish. Luckily a sanitation truck driver just happened to be there.

It wasn't my car but a jeep we rented broke down in Goa, India. We were on our way to Baga beach, I think.
The jeep broke down in the middle of nowhere. The streets were pitch black. We were sitting there for about 45 minutes when some dude walks out. He said he had a van he could drive us in to the place we were trying to get to and we agreed... there was 6 of us and we thought we could take him if he tried to rob us or some shit.
We embarked on one of my scariest rides ever. Pitch black streets. We thought we were gonna die.
But, the guy ended up being cool. He took us to a place called Curly's on the beach. One of the best experiences i've had in my life. Must have been like a 1000 people just partying like crazy... the kind of parties you see in movies.
The next day we told the owner of the place we rented the jeep from the place we were going to and to go and find the jeep himself.

none are really weird...just inconvenient
on the highway and my alternator decides to pack it in, battery died shortly after....had to pull over on in the HOV lane and wait for a tow truck..
another time my car wouldn't start ( bad starter ) had to get my friends to pus my car down the street so i could bump start it
another time my upper rad hose split , noticed it when i get out of my car to go the gym...saw a huge pool of coolant on the floor and said fuck it and went to work out anyways
cooling fan clutch died and overheated in traffic in Abbotsford
ignition switch on my truck is iffy...was going to the USA and they made me shut off my car even when i asked if i could keep it on....couldn't start it and held up their line and that pissed them off ( later fixed it by hot wiring the bastard )
countless dead batteries and jump starts from random people in parking lots
exhaust rusted off and part of the exhaust pipe fell off and got lodged between road and rear axle...dragged that bastard for a few hundred meters before i had to get under my car in the pissing rain on the side of the highway to try to rip it off
had my exhaust fall off on the air care dyno - attendant was not amused

I've had a heater hose burst on a past car, just south of S. Lake Samish exit heading Northbound on the I-5. Waited for a tow-truck for 2 hours on the side of the highway.
If it was a rad hose, would've just duct-taped the sucker. Heater hose under the intake? No such luck. Made me glad I had the BCAA membership which includes tows up to 320km.
Got it towed back to my shop and fixed it the following Monday morning.
Aside from that breakdown, I've been lucky. I've had the pinion shaft of my rear differential blow through the differential cover on my old truck, blew up the side-gears on the differential when that happened. Happened in town, the day after I got back from a camping trip 35km down a FSR past Boston Bar. That would have been the suck if it had happened the day before.

We were lucky that we broke down by a road crew who were patching up the road and they had a satellite phone to call a tow truck

First time I broke down was in my first year of driving. I was parked at SFU and was leaving for day. Knew jack about cars back then, started the car and all the electronics had reset, it was weird and made note of it. Drove a friend home and went to get gas, car won't start after. Battery was dead.
Second time, funny enough, was also at school, just into my second year of driving. Car was bubbling coolant out fervently after I parked. Went into instant panic mode and called my mechanic. Nursed the car home, stopping for water every 10mins or so. Head gasket.

I've had the fuel pump on my 335i die twice already. First time I was on Hastings by the PNE and I freaked out. Second time I was on the freeway and I said fuck it, gonna take this shaking as just a massage while driving lol.

We were cruising home, after a day of wheeling, on Lougheed Hwy in PoCo and hit a stale green light that turned red just before we reached the intersection in my CJ5. Hammered the brakes, blew a front brake line, pedal went to the floor and sailed through the red light with no brakes. I always thought the rear brakes didn't work that well ................ Luckily no one was in the intersection. I kept a spare brake line in my tool box and we had it changed out with brakes bled and on the road in half an hour.
Not really broke down but last year I went to the nightmarket and parked in the area where its free on viscount way. Somehow I lost my spare key while walking around the night market and i already lost my main key the week before. Shitty dealz so my car stayed there for a couple days til i finally decide to tow it to my place and get a locksmith to make new keys :(
^How did you prove to the locksmith that you owned the car if the doors were locked? Or did the tow truck driver leave them unlocked after opening them? If so, how does the tow truck driver know it's actually your car?

No breakdowns but some dumb mistakes on my part.
I was out with a girl one time doing some 4X4'ing in Slave Lake (sp?) out in Mission with my dad's 1994 Toyota 4Runner. I knew nothing about proper attire and equipment. Got stuck in a mud hole for what seemed to be 3 hours. There were some hillbillies who came and helped me out. I was initially embarrassed and afraid but they were super nice. The spent lots of time trying to drag me out. I just kept getting stuck again and again. One time I left my rear hatch window down and the guy trying to pull me out spun his wheels and threw a bunch of mud inside the 4Runner. Another guy even had his tow line snap while trying to pull me out. I had to run the truck through the car wash 2 times and there was still mud everywhere. Never did tell my dad what happened though.
Another time, I locked my keys in my Acura EL while hiking in Golden Ears. I had opened the truck, locked the car locks, and locked the trunk lock (this lock that's beside the driver's seat which locks the lever for the trunk). I was taking off my jacket when I threw the key into the trunk and then closed the trunk. Ranger station was 25 minutes so me and this girl was I dating hiked all the way there, waited another 30 minutes for the ranger to show up, another 30 minutes for the tow truck to come and then another 30 minutes for him to figure out a way to pick my trunk lock. $120 tow bill and I gave him another $20 for tip.
Both times I was with a girl I was interested in. I guess I get distracted easily. They were both really cool though and though the experience was embarrassing and humbling, they didn't give me a hard time and they were both really supportive.

Highway 1 east off ramp from willingdon.. friends car. It had just been serviced by the stealership and they left a nice fat air bubble in the coolant loop. Needle hit the red and car started to smoke ... spend about 40 minutes trying to figure out how to fix it, finally just bled the system and it was all good after that.

One of my friends just got back from Afghanistan after some private contracting work, the RG32 he was travelling in broke down out of the blue on a road in the middle of nowhere, after exiting the vehicle, he and his team did a quick sweep of the area and found an IED just 15 yards away, pure luck they broke down.

Reading these stories, it sounds like the cars some of you drive don't seem very safe, or they're pieces of junk! :p
Apart from a few dead batteries (because I left the lights on), the cars I've driven haven't "broken down" (knock on wood)...
Cars I've driven in recent memory:
early 90s Acura Integra RS
1997 Acura Integra GS-R
late 90s Nissan Pathfinder
late 90s BMW 540i
2002 BMW 330ci (current)
2004 Acura RSX-s

The only reason the brake line blew was because the mud tire lugs grabbed at the rubber line and tore some chunks out of it. We were out wheeling with the front swaybar disconnected and I forgot to hook the bungy cords onto the lines to pull them back and away from the tires. The Rubicon Express springs really allows the axle to articulate when rock crawling.
I guess being a piece of junk would only be in the eyes of the beholder. I built the 350 engine with a mild cam and flat top pistons, lockers in the axles, lifted, 33 inch Swampers, on board air, etc. It's not a looker but did everything I wanted it to do. That was the only time it ever broke down on me and only for half an hour.

Oh and then my motor blew up driving down the 91.
yep, that was a good two hours on the side of the road.
my car shut off out of no where, no power, going uphill on 72nd, pulled over right away with whatever momentum I had. couldn't start it. took me almost 2 hours to figure out, but the immobilizer ground became loose. better that than something important.
pulling into the twilight drive-in, in Langley, just as i pulled into my spot, my upper rad hose burst, nothing some ducktape and distilled water couldn't temporarily fix for the drive home!

My MSD coil died at school one time. Lordco was a 5 min walk away luckily, so tossed a new one on and was mobile again.
Other minor issues but still able to drive my vehicle:
Heater hose burst 5 min away from home, just continued to drive it. Motor had a nice hot shower with 2 week old coolant :|
Water pump X2, just started to leak.
Alternator died, but still had enough juice to pick up new one and drive home.
Starter died, but able to bump start due to manual tranny and creative parking.
U-joint started to click badly.
Dead batteries due to leaving interior lights on, listening to music too long.
