I'm at my wits end with this problem, so hopefully someone has some ideas.

I have a 3 month old Dell Inspiron laptop with an Intel Centrino Wireless 1030 network card.

For the first 2 months the wireless worked perfectly fine at my house, no issues at all. Then about 2 weeks ago the internet started slowing down, sometimes sites would take 2-3 minutes to load or time out completely.

My blackberry and work laptop work fine off of the wireless network so it doesn't seem to be the router. BUT, when I took my laptop to my friends house, or to work, the wireless internet works fine!

Checked to see if my drivers were updated, did virus/malware scans, disabled firewall, etc. etc. nothing seems to be a good solution. When my laptop is 5 feet from the router, it shouldn't be timing out randomly.

The router is a D-Link DIR 625.

Maybe somebody's using your bandwidth? Happened to me once.
I got paranoid after that and started locking everything down hardcore.

is there a new firmware for your router?

if not, try to factory reset (30/30/30) the router and set it up again...

I tried re-installing the network card but no go.

Just reset the wireless router and now everything is working super fast. Went from a 0.7mbs download Shaw Speed test to a 8.5mbs download on the same speed test as soon as I reset the router.

So obviously it doesn't seem to be the laptop itself, but the router I would think.

What is odd though is last time I reset the router, it worked fine for a few hours and then everything slowed down again. Obviously resetting the router daily isn't ideal... might just be on its way out?

Maybe you should take a look at the wireless security settings on your router. It sounds to me like someone is using your network.

If you're using WEP encryption, don't. Use WPA2, or at the very least WPA. Have a nice, long password. I used to use this site to generate random passwords: https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm . Don't forget to save it somewhere so you can copy and paste it to new devices.

usually routers have built up of electrical currents.. a physical restart of the unit to discharge it usually works. otherwise factory reset.

i usually unplug my router once a week to clear it up.. only takes 5mins which isnt a long time and keeps my internet usage trouble free...
