Bike frame cracked, you guys probably heard :p

As the title states, is there any place that can Weld Aluminum (TIG) and Heat Treat it?

Im just gonna throw it out there to give speed syndicate a call? If they can't, they'll be able to throw you in the right direction. (i'm assuming that welding is welding whether a car or bike frame)

Post a pic of the crack. Did it crack on the weld or on the tubing?

I haven't been in the bike scene for awhile but you can try rocky, dekerf or brodie or some other local frame manufacturers.

Actually I beleive one of the welders from rocky mountain bikes went to work at a shop in langley called outlaw customs. I'd personally just get a new frame. Don't take it to a random performance shop that welds car parts.

When I worked at norco I think frank the welder did some of their custom stuff/prototypes. He is based in the US. I would seriously consider getting a new frame.

I am getting a new frame, but id thought i try reviving this one, what do i have to lose?

I dont think local manufacturers will bother welding and heat treating for me but ill give it a shot.

I would not ride that bike again. It's finished. If it has sentimental value hang it from the wall or something. I've cracked a few frames and once it's cracked that's it. It dosen't look like that's the main part of the frame? If it isn't can't you buy a replacement rear triangle?

That's not a crack you're going to be wanting to fix. It's not just a join, it's structural tubing at this point.

It's like having a frame cracked on a car, and wanting to fix it. It really just isn't safe and will never be the same.

yah thats not worth fixing, is it a chainstay? Just get a new rear piece if thats the case.

Devinci stopped making this in 2004 so i think im outta luck. IF only they stood by their warranty and helped me not just say basically NO. :okay:

This crack is just on the chainstay, nothing really major if it cracks again, but i know what your saying, ahh well.....


Im on the lookout for a new frame now, maybe ill hang it in my room with it hot glued together.....

Well jbweld claims they are stronger than welding. So throw some on hit the a-line rock drop a few times and let me know.

Internally sleeve it before welding it then get it heat treated and re powdercoated it will be stronger then original if done right

That was what i was thinking, machine a piece of aluminum that will snugly fit in the frame then weld and heat treat.....I could probably spray paint with couple layers of clear coat and paint, it woudnt matter looks arent what im aiming for.....

However Devinci offered me a Devinci Ollie 2009 for $875, im thinking that doing all the repairing will probably cost over 100.........
