Hey guys,
I've been getting many PMs of people asking me when Sportchek will have another Friends/Family event.
I just got confirmation today that the next event will be Sept 28/29th. I don't have more details yet, but I would assume the discount is same as usual, 25% off Reg, 10% off Sale items.
I will post the coupon as soon as I get it.
By that time we should have a selection of 2011/2012 snowsports Hardgoods, Outerwear out already, great opportunity to pick up a Nuptse jacket, or a Canada Goose or other items that never go on sale.
Feel free to ask any questions here or via PM.

Sneakers, Casual Shoes, Athletic Shoes Online | Eastbay.com (http://www.eastbay.com)
Still cheaper than SportChek even with the F&F sale. In fact, it was a SportChek employee that originally told me about EastBay.

:D Consider it a friendly reminder. I only use SportChek now to try on sizes, EastBay beats even the SportChek sale prices by a lot.
Don't forget that Eastbay has coupon codes floating around, as well as their own F&F sales.
20% codes are fairly common, yet now some items state that coupons don't apply, like most of the UA clothing.

Its tough to compete with the online market for pricing.
However, some people still prefer to shop the old fashion way, in a retail store.
But thanks for sharing the info taylor

Eastbay's not local (I couldn't even find out where they're from... are they purely an online store?)
I can't buy any hockey related stuff there.
And online shopping can be "messy" when shipment takes forever or gets lost.
Some people would rather pay the extra $30 or whatever just to get the item as soon as they pay.
so it's not for everyone.
how much is the shipping though?
I don't want to fill in all my info just to find out. Can anyone tell me if the shipping rates are reasonable?

Yes you cannot buy hockey stuff, yet you can get other types of athletic gear. Dick's Sporting Goods is another great online store (with retail stores in the US) and does have hockey gear, as well as much more athletic gear than EastBay. I have ordered from Dick's Sporting Goods until a SportChek employee recommended EastBay.
That's a reason why I post this everytime, a SportChek employee recommended Eastbay cause it even beats their employee pricing.
If you ship to Point Roberts it'll arrive within a few days and cost $5-20 (or less if you use a free shipping coupon code). If you ship to Canada it takes 4-6 weeks and costs ~30% of the total as they add duty/taxes to the price and take care of that for you.
Do you factor in the duty fees?
Kinda. I always wait for a 20% off coupon figuring if I am charged duty/taxes at Point Roberts (which so far I haven't, knock on wood) the discount covers the extra fees.
I did the math once for a large order. It would have been just over $600 CND, with shipping after a 20% discount my EastBay total was just shy of $300. Even with taxes and duty I would have saved ~$250 (~35%) and since Point Roberts often doesn't charge it, I saved > 50%.

Yea, for sure online shopping is cheaper. Buying from US is cheaper overall due to the fact that us retaillers have larger buying power due to larger population. US also has less import taxes for stuff coming from over seas. US also doesn't have a law stating that all packaging must be bilingual, which drives up the cost as well.
As for online retailers, the smaller cost of overhead allows them to sell the goods for much cheaper. However, a lot of people still prefers instant gratification, and wants an item immediately, and not wait for shipment. And not everyone have the luxury of time to drive to point roberts to pick up the shipment.
Lastly, I just took a look at the eastbay prices....95% of the stuff is more expensive than my employee pricing....a few might be the same as my employee pricing. Haven't seen anything that's significantly lower, so I don't know where you got that info from.

Taking a quick comparison for a few items. With the Friends and Family sale, the pricing for eastbay vs sportchek is pretty close.
Ie
Asics Kayano 17
Eastbay: $139.99 (not including shippin, duty etc)
Sportchek:$199.99 -25% = $149.99
Nike Lunarglide +3
Eastbay: $99.99
Sportchek:$139.99-25%=$104.99
Underarmour Micro G Funk
Eastbay: $89.99
Sportchek: $109.99-25%=$82.49
Merrel Trailglove
Eastbay: $109.99
Sportchek: $139.98 -25%=$104.99
I just picked a few shoes from different catagories that usually don't go on sale.
So I'll admit Eastbay has good pricing, but a the friends/family deal at sportchek is quite competitive.

how much did it end up costing u?
$204 for 2 short sleeve home authentic jerseys incl tax (they had no more home long sleeves)
I also got a $20 gift card for spending over $100 for a future purchase (or $50 for spending $250)
I called the Metro and Park Royal one but they wouldn't match Champs, but when I walked into the Lougheed mall one and asked the manager he said he would do it, so i guess YMMV

Official policy is no.
We will deny you if you just bring in your receipt.
However, if you buy it 2 weeks in adv, but don't use the gear and keep it in new condition, u can bring the item in on the day of the sale to simply return it and rebuy the item.

I have to agree with taylor, Eastbay is usually the place to buy cheaper stuff. Even with shipping and the possibility of being taxed when picking them up across the border, it's usually cheaper. Champs/footlocker employees get 30% off when they place the order by phone, but not sure if it's still the case.
I missed the days when champs/footlocker employee discount works in the states :( One time I picked up 2 pairs of Kobe 1's for a total of $80 USD during a 50. While the same pair goes for $199.99 at our store here in Vancouver.

Just got a few more details in regards to this sale.
There will be a 1 page flyer launching on the day of the sale in either the Province or the Sun featuring a big winter clear out.
For snowboarders, all stores are getting a selection of older Rossignol/Roxy snowboard and bindings that will be sold at 50% off the regular ticketed price + ADDITIONAL 10% off with your friends and family coupon.
For skiiers, there will be a Rossignol Z72 Ski+Binding Package on sale for $299.99 + ADDITIONAL 10% off with your friends and family coupon, both amazing deals.
For runners, there will be a massive footwear clearance going on during the Friends/Family sale as well (Starts monday). The sale is 50% off all clearance priced shoes ending in 0.88. + Additional 10% off the price with your friends and family coupon. For a shoe to qualify as 0.88 clearance it must be 40% off the original ticketed price. So for example, a shoe regular price at $200 will be marked down to 119.88 to qualify as clearance, for this sale it will be 50% off that price at $60, then additional 10% off for F&F event so $54 for a $200 shoe. These prices will be better than employee discount. Selection will vary by location, so YMMV.
There is also 2 on going flyer during this friends and family event so there will be other deals as well that you will be able to save 10% on top of the sale price with the friends/family sale.

just so some of you guys are aware, due to the fact that this year's friends and family event is held 2 weeks earlier than last year, stores will have limited selection of this year's NEW outerwear and snow sports gear out yet.
There WILL be another private shopping event with the same friends and family discount held on Nov 27th with a UBC student club, which by then we will have our full selection of winter gear. I haven't 100% worked out the admission requirement yet, but last year the requirement was "valid student ID of any institution" + entrance by donation, not sure how its going to be this year, but just thought i'd give you guys the heads up.

So my girlfriend is coming to see me in 10 days. Now she has a $100 SC gift card.
If I buy something tomorrow at SC during the fnf sale, can I come back in 10 days and charge the balance on the GC that my gf is going to bring?
Technically no, but doable.....kind of a pain the ass to do.....but just come buy the stuff at my location, and when your gf give you her GC come back to see me and i will do the adjustment for you.
Will the one95 sticks be cheaper then the current 129?
Posted via RS Mobile (http://www.revscene.net/forums/announcement.php?a=228)
Unfortunately no, they will stay at $129.99, which is a pretty good price, save additional 10% during Friends/Family.
Are they still on sale for $129? Oh crap. Better not. I still have a bunch of uncut Total ones. :heckno:
Yes they are still on sale for $129.99, some people still prefer the One95 over the TotalOne
im looking to grab a pair of black work shoes. which location would i go to for the best selection?
Any location would carry plain black shoes, the "bigger" locations usually have better selection, Park Royal, Richmond and Metro would be the 3 biggest GVRD locations.

ah icic, its is definately doable, but the manager can refuse to do it for you
essentially you'll need to buy everything during friends/family, then go back in with your gift card, return everything you bought, then rebuy it with your giftcard while asking them to honor the friends/family discount. (which they can do if they do the return/rebuy on the sale bill, which constitues as an exchange).
just need to find a manager thats not a douche and they should be willing to do it for you.

I plan on hitting Richmond Centre tomorrow morning, hoping to pickup the Merrell Trail Glove and Kobes.

Any Canucks Orca jerseys yet?
As of yesterday, no.....
But some stores might have some left over from last season still
You can always try asking the manager if they will let you buy another team's premier jersey and exchange for a canucks jersey when it arrives while keeping the same discount. Results depends on the manager so ymmv

Metrotown has fuck all for clearance shoes, unless you're a size 12+, want cleats or sandals.
Watch for the mark downs. There's a couple items I picked up that 25% off the regular price would have been less than 10% off the sale price.
I was happy to get a Northface jacket for 25% off, these rarely go on sale.
Oh, and bring the coupon! The sales people kept asking me if I had the coupon (probably cause I was carrying so much) so I asked if I really needed it. Three different sales people told me they are instructed not to give it out.

I realized I had forgotten the coupon while on the way to the Metrotown location. I didn't think it'd be a problem, and I was right. I was nice to the girl working the cashier and she gave me two, no questions asked. Got everything I wanted too :D

Thanks for the coupon skiipi, I wish this was delayed 2-3 weeks.
stock at SC have remained the same for the past two weeks. Are you guys hiding stock? :suspicious:
No, there were no new Canucks jerseys. CCM 3rd Home jersey in XL, and crappy V old school jerseys that was collecting dust since the start of this year.

Definately not hiding stock.
I guess you'll have to wait and try to make it out to the dsc private shop night on Nov 27th, by then we'll have canucks jerseys for sure.

I haven't figured out details to admission requirement with dsc yet
But I have a feeling that's not going to be a problem.
It will most likely be a "by donation" entrance like last year
