So I may need to find a place somewhere in the lower mainland and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any good property management companies or websites to search on.

Also, if say I found something through the newspaper, kijiji or craigslist how do I protect myself from the rental scams that happen?

Thank you in advance to everyone for their help :)

I used this website when I moved here. Not bad, got my first rental place. Some info there as well.

If you want to prevent yourself from scams, google BC RESIDENTIAL TENANCY ACT and review it.....being a tenant, you have more rights than you can imagine.

Unfortunately, unless you are renting from a building that deals with property management or the property chose to hire property management, you've gotta pretty much look after yourself in order to protect yourself from scams. Unfortunately, not a lot of landlords use a third party service because it 'seems to be' straight forward.

if appartment is occupied, ask for renter's contact or leave your info for them to call. Or just ask what the buzzer and then drop by without notice
