... the link points to $89.99 + $10.76 shipping (before the coupon) at this time

is this one of the better 'green' drives? I have no problems with WD greens despite all the complaints (turned down spin-down), but i'm interested in trying other 'greens'. any specific samsung or hitachi 2TB models?

Looks like the deal is over. I ordered it yesterday for $71.67 incl tax/ship. Pretty good deal, if you need more storage space. Thanks for the heads up, OP.

yeah deal's dead. Looks like they not only jacked up the price but now there's also shipping since the coupon floating around..pretty lame.

From what i'm reading the samsung seems to be the most reliable...but IMO with high capacity drives it just seems luck of the draw...better run diagnostics before storing your valuable shit and you should be good.

I think there's an option in Win 7 to turn off the spin-down effect of the WD Caviar Green.

If you do get this drive, make sure you run a firmware update on it. There's a lengthly article here (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/SamsungF4EGBadBlocks) about it and a discussion on Hardforums (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1566067). Apparently the firmware update doesn't show a new version so it's hard to know whether it's actually installed or not.

With that said, I actually have 4 of these in my NAS for the last 9 months and I haven't had any problems with them. I have to mention that during seek they're a bit noisier than the WD Green's (I had the 1TB WD Green's prior to putting in the Samsung).

The 1.5TB version is still a good deal.

HDTune doesn't seem to work with my external drive via USB
