With the likelihood that my TouchPad orders aren't going to go through, I've started to look at different tablets.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the one that's catching my eye right now. It's supposed to be out any time now. Hopefully a little sooner than later.

Also the reviews I've been reading have all said good things about the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Has anyone bought one in the states and have used it? It's either going to be the Galaxy Tab 10.1, ASUS Transformer, and maybe the Iconia

played with it. most tablets are pretty much the same. This samsung one tho looks the best, but doesnt have hdmi or sd card slot
I saw it at staples. Nothing special, just thin and light. I didn't see any USB slots or anything though.
Personally I'm still going for the transformer. Maybe Transformer 2 if it gets released soon.

My vote's for the Transformer too. I only went the Xoom cause it's the smallest physically and has all the bells and whistles including the ports. Too bad it's heavy :(
The Galaxy Tab feels so flimsy, but it is thin and light ... Screen quality isn't the best ...

basically the ipad in my opinion the zoon has the most features if i recall correctly, but my friend, being a girl, is getting this samsung, just because of the looks. Hhaha typical girl.

Heres what i found after a few weeks using the galxy tab 10.1.
Its pretty much the same as the eee pad, except for having less ports, slimmer/lighter design, better screen in terms of contrast + color saturation, and better build quality. I played with both for a long time before making my choice and i found the weight to be a big factor in daily use. I had an ipad 2 before and even then i found the weight to be not that ideal for one-handed using for long periods of time. The few extra grams shaved on really made a huge a diff. I can't imagine using the transformer with one hand for more than 30 min, its is so much heavier. I bougth the Samsung Book Cover Case online along with the tab and it looks much more professional than the smart cover. the new touchwiz adds alot more features than what Asus offers in their transformer as well.

Anyone have the Samsung Book Cover for it?

BB and FS are not selling the USB adapter either for the Galaxy Tab :(
I wouldn't buy it without this, as with the latest version of Android it can be used as a USB host for flash drives.

NEW GENUINE SAMSUNG BOOK COVER CASE FOR GALAXY TAB 10.1 | eBay (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-GENUINE-SAMSUNG-BOOK-COVER-CASE-GALAXY-TAB-10-1-/170673715645?pt=UK_iPad_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item27bcf239bd#ht_3043wt_1141)
Shipping took a week and a half and is cheaper than buying straight from Samsung. The biggest gripe i have with this case is that the power and volume buttons are prone to being pressed when in the case, causing it to lock down. The only way to turn it on again is to hold down power/volume button to hard reset. It's pretty fucking annoying actually, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about buying it..

Just order it online. It'll probably be cheaper anyways.

Ive tried out a couple tablets now, Ipad2, Xoom and galaxy 10.1 and finally the transformer today. The transformer wins hands downdue to its functionality. You can pick one up at The Source or $499 with keyboard dock, where as best buy/FS are selling them seperatly.
The tablet market in general seems to be so niche and after using them heavily for 2 months now, they serve no real purpose other then READING (Not writing) eails and FB messages, reading news, and watching the odd video. Typing on tablets is the most awkward experience I've ever had wita "computer" . I am aware that I can get seperate key boards for these devices, but the Transformer just works as its a netbook and a tablet.
I dont feel like going into a full on review of each tablet right now but the Transformer is the way to go if you want something with some real purpose other then a nice toy.
EDIT--> Typing on the keyboard dock for the transformer is rather sluggish, not sure if its just due to poor firmware or something, but its rather annoying typing in the browser. Also, the stock bowser doesn't allow you to stream music on one tab, and switch to another as the music will cut outt, i didn't think it was an android issue as my phone works ifne for this. It appears to be sluggis in th stock browser only, as gmail app and emails are fine.

I have it. It is awesome. Only problem is I had to pay $64.99 at THE Source for it. Hella expensive for what it is.

I had an Ipad 64 3G, Ipad2 64 3G, and Playbook 32 and they have since been sold. I now have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 16 3G I got in Hong Kong earlier this month. I paid $6700HKD=$840CDN for it but haven't looked back. The size, construction is awesome and the lightweight is definately a plus. I will eventually sell this to get a Galaxy Tab 8.9 once it is available. The reason why size is important for me is I travel alot for work and need something light for use on the airplane. I don't really need computer fuctionality as my laptop is always with me anyway and unpacked at the hotel. I use the tablet mainly for reading Kobo or comics, music and vids when I am on my monthly long haul flight to asia. I got the 3G version just because I do use it alot when I am here too. Only thing I am disappointed with is the lack of microSD slot...would have been nice but not a deal breaker. I have ordered the USB adapter and don't have an issue with using it if I really have to.
I do really like the Asus Transformer and is an awesome unit, I didn't choose it because it doesn't have 3G. I don't like having to always tether to my phone and my Galaxy SII battery life sux enough without having to do it. Build quality and finish is awesome as you would expect from Asus. I am definately a fan of Asus products, both laptop and desktop.
I don't really like the build quality of the Acer Iconia, go to Futureshop and check out the Gateway branded version of the Iconia, it might have better build quality. FS Bridgeport has it instock, they also have the new 7" Iconia instock and on demo.
If you are looking for super functionality and not too concerned about size, check out the Toshiba Thrive, it has full size USB and full size SD slot. I played with it for quite a while and I like it alot, if size wasn't an issue and it had 3g I would definately consider it.
As previous posts have mentioned, the Galaxy Tab is instock at Staples, The Source and Visions. If you don't mind driving to Bellingham, you can get the 32gb version for $599. I drove down to the BB in Bellingham to pick up the 32gb version for my dad on Friday. They also have both grey and white if you want something different to what's offered in Canada.
Note:
I only got rid of the Playbook because I was going blind trying to read comics on the 7" screen.

I bought the Tab 10.1, hoping it would be the killer tablet. It wasn't my experience, especially with the touchwiz update.
I can't put my finger on exactly why I wasn't fully satisfied with the device, it just doesn't feel totally polished. The hardware is SUPER awesome, but the software didn't feel as awesome. It felt like I was using a gigantic Samsung Galaxy S2.

i feel the same for a lot of tablets
software isnt good enough for the hardware.
i guess its because its still a new concept

its because honeycomb isnt fully optimized for tegra processors yet. Games run really well with tegra because they are optomized for it, but the OS for some retarded reason is still lagging. Geeks can prolly explain this better, sth to do with GPU/CPU usage of the OS? The hardware is there, but the software is not. 3.2 may speed it up when it comes out, and google will continue to update and optimize honeycomb until it utilizes the full power of tegra.
On another note, has anyone found any screen protectors?

I'm running 3.2 on my Xoom. I don't find any problems with it.

the touchwiz update slowed down the overall OS menus/home screen. browser and in-app speed has def increased though...

Yeh, I have both a 32gb Wifi and a 16gb 3g, and the 32gb felt smoother and snappier because it didn't come with touchwiz.
Hopefully 3.2 will be along shortly for both. If not maybe a custom 3.2 rom will be available as both are now rooted with CWM.

Hey quick question.
I'm planning on buying a friend's galaxy tab 10.1 (he got it as a free gift from Rogers as part of a promotion). It doesn't matter if it's Rogers branded or not right? There's no requirement to pop in a rogers sim is there? I figure there's wifi so I should be good either way since I'm not a Rogers customer and only intend on using wifi...
