couldn't find this when i searched, so i hope it's not a repost
So Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) is in town this week.
Arrived in Tuesday and he's already been to some restaurants we all know such as Save-on-Meats (west hastings).
He's also been to that silver food "truck stand" by Canada Place.
He's filming for a future episode.
Has anyone seen him in person this week filming?
My gf and her friends got free meals as part of the filming and they said he is a really friendly, down to earth guy.
You guys might see him around.

Guy Fieri gets a little too generic sometimes. But between Adam Richman's Man V Food and DDD's, I personally think DDD's provides more entertainment value (on top of just making you drool).
I watch it whenever I can. I've been to a few of the dives he's recommended..........
Nice to see he's in our neck of the woods.

^ agree and disagree.
Some episode are just disgusting to watch, not only does he have to eat some shitty 5 lb cheeseburger loaded with bacon + grease, he has to eat another 5 lbs of fries ontop of that. But a lot of the restaurants he goes to are famous for having "the best" pulled pork, or wings, or those burgers with melting cheese in the middle, etc, etc

It does seem the Food Network is popular with members of Revscene, but for the general public not so much. Having worked in the film/tv side of things and seeing ratings reports daily, the Food Network routinely finishes in the bottom 5 of the 26 Nielsen rated cable networks, averaging just over 1.1 million viewers. None of Food Network's shows crack the top 50 viewed cable shows.
The game show he hosts on NBC, Minute to Win it, routinely finishes 3rd in its time slot well behind Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance, usually at 4-4.5 million viewers avg.

u said that most ppl dont know who he is. i still disagree. i ur talking about how much the food network gets viewed and ratings, yes i agree with you. the ratings ur referring to are not appropriate for measuring recognition. if u were to index recognition, take into account the popular south park episode he was in, his multiple shows cross-network and the global brand he has grown into, with media hits up the ying yang. i still disagree with you, most ppl in usa/ca who live in a city and watch tv know who he is.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. I thought I might have been out to lunch on this but I just showed his picture in this thread to 9 of my coworkers and only 2 knew who he was.
I do agree that tv ratings alone is not a totally accurate measure of recognition, however for media personalities, it is one major factor. I liken this guy to one of my former coworkers, who was one of the leads on a long running network tv show and has been on a number of other shows and films, while there are people that recognize him and know who he is, when out and about around town, the majority of the public had no clue, maybe 3 out of 10 people stopped him to chat or starred/giving the I know you look.
When I say the majority of people don't recognize or know who he is, I'm not saying he's not successful at what he does or that he's a nobody, so if you are a fan of this guy and his show, don't take offense to it. While a lot of people do know them, I wouldn't say the majority do, they aren't like Tom Cruise or Matt Damon where everywhere they go while in town the majority of people recognize and know who they are. I would say that Fieri isn't even as recognizable as other cooks/chefs turned media stars like Gordon Ramsey or Rachel Ray to the general public, just based on my observations.

+1 I hate the shows watching people eat, much prefer the past shows that actually showed cooking like Michael Smith, Jamie Oliver, etc. I hear Scripps, who owns Food Network and Travel Channel is launching a new Cooking channel that will feature more of those types of shows, which I am looking forward to.

Does PBS still have cooking shows on Saturday? I remember watching Jacques Pepin, Julia Child, Frugal Gourmet, Two Fat Ladies way back. Hell I'd even enjoy Yan Can Cook compared to what FN has these days.
