Help: Need new Head phones.

I need some new headphones,.
I can't decied what to get.
So far I have been considering AKG K/Q701's or 702'sor Sennheiser 600/650's

I will be using them for: gaming, blurays, and music.

Current hardware: Auzentech Prelude XFI, HT amp, \Marantz 5003.

I dont know which is best for my applications out of these 5 models, nore do i really know much about other models i can pick from. My Marantz is not a true head phone amp, so I do not know how well it would sound on it, I may buy a headphone amp in the future, but nothing over kill.

Please advise me in which direction to go.

K701 or 702 - if you are ok with open headphones. Otherwise I'd go for a Denon D5000 or Beyerdynamics DT990's

I've got both 990s and K702.
I used to run a Prelude as well, but my newest asus board puts out phenomenal sound.

Looking to sell my K702, you're welcome to pop over for a listen.

Lols, no idea.
Maybe... 300?
Tom Lee Music - AKG ACOUSTICS - K702 PROFESSIONAL STUDIO HEADPHONES

I wouldn't call them pristine, but let's call it a 9 or 9.5 out of 10?
I've still got original boxes and such.

I'm crazy busy this week, maybe swing by mid next week?
Let's take this over to PM?

I have Beyer DT770 32ohm and T50p 32ohm for travel. The DT770 are pretty good for the price. I am using with a Creek amp and Sony ES CD player.

Just looking for opinions as well. I picked up a pair of Sony MDR XD200 for under $30, should I be spending a bit more to get better (and what do you recommend for under $60) or should these be good enough for music, movies and gaming?

These all become issues of personal preference, audiophile grade headphones dont start till you hit the $150(used) mark, and even that that's cheap in this relative market.
It is by far one of the worst selections of headphones, but, go to future shop ask if you can demo some of there more expensive wired headphones something sennhieser perhaps. and see if you like the difference.

I have a Pair of sennhieser pc350's ($230@futureshop) that had the mic broke, they sound fantastic as they use the same drivers as the hd600's($350) I'll let them go pretty cheap if you want a poor mans audiophile grade pair of cans.

Still Looking for more suggestions and comparisons:
I still would like more input, mostly wondering how people would compare the 600s/650s vs q701's/k702's. Also interested in other suggestion models.

It's been ages since I listened to the 600s. The 701 and 702 sound the same really.
The sennheisers are a bit warmer and more forward. The AKG is a bit more analytical sounding. An amp really let's them open up, but they are still good without. I don't think they sound that good at very low volumes.

Those are open too. I have them on right now.

@OP:

As far as 701/702 vs HD600/650, I think it will just depend on your preference since they are two different signatures, as Culverin said. I haven't heard the AKG phones you mentioned, but I do love the warmth and overall presentation of the 650, and damn I wish I could afford them.

Again, I can't vouch for the AKG phones, but I've found all of Sennheiser's HD5xx and 6xx series phones to be extremely comfortable. Better than my Beyers! I love me some velour....

Have you actually tried on/listened to any of the phones yet?

There's a Tom Lee in Chilliwack. IIRC, the downtown store carries at least the HD600 and the 701, so it might be worth giving the Chilliwack store a ring to see if they have them as well.

Don't mean to thread jack but, i'm lookin for new earbuds for my ipod.
Since I'm here in the Philippines, it'll be cheaper here. I'm lookin to get the Dr.Dre beats ear buds. But I'm not really into the whole in-ear ones, somewhat looking for the phones like the iPod ones but that are longer lasting.

bought headphones from memory express the other day. Sennhieser pc 151. Lower model, but it only cost me 35 bucks before tax, down from 70. I just use for moderate gaming and skype tho.
