Hey guys,

What happens if I sign a contract for contracted work but later down the road, one of the parties decide to breach it.

These aren't necessarily the cases but I was wondering what would happen if:

1. They are not happy with my current work progress and decide to not use my work anymore. Are we still bound by contract and will I have to complete the work regardless if they like it or not?

2. I can't fullfil the terms of the contract, life decides to throw me a curveball and there are too many things going on that I'm unable to handle everything a long with the contract. Will I have to give back what they already paid me? Or will they just take me to court and do stuff there?

I'm just starting to do freelancing work and was wondering what would happen if any of these situations came up. The best way to protect myself and the other party member would be to add a clause stating that if X, Y, or Z, happens then the contract is voidable?

Go see a lawyer to write you up a proper contract. Sometimes clauses xyzabc can get you in trouble even if they are on paper. Don't start out a career with a lawsuit.

How much do lawyers usually charge to make a contract?

I know someone who was still in school when he got in a lawsuit with blizzard due to making hacks. Now whenever you search his name, the first thing that pops up is the suite. Wouldn't really want that to happen to me.

Any form of breaching a contract can end in a lawsuit right? Unless both parties agree?

1) they will have to give you written notice. the period is usually stated in the contract.
2) also will be in teh contract. such as critical illness. outcome will also be stated.

have you read the contract? if the contract does not state your questions, and the outcome, come up with a fair suggestion for both parties and get the employer to amend it. you dont need a lawyer - just some common sense and good judgement.

Google a generic contract and read it.

You're doing some smaller work so i wouldn't suggest a lawyer unless going to be making decent money out of it.

Most Contract is just you do XYZ you get paid ABC. If you can't complete yadda yadda, you pay back ABC and/or percentages.

Most companies would probably either A. pay for partial amount of the work you did (if they like you and they're not assholes) or B. you forfeit your work done and dont' get paid cuz your contract said you mst finish to get paid.
