City Zoning change

I got a letter from City saying they are going to change the zoning bylaw, next to my house and build bunch of condos
which means, when finished I'll have nice view of new condos instead of mountains
They will have a meeting at cityhall in few weeks.
Do I have any say in this? or am I pretty much SOL?

I think if you can round up enough neighbors and complain, I *think* the zoning won't change.

Yup, get enough neighbours together and there's a chance you can get the development halted. Happened a few times in my neighbourhood whenever a specific plot of land nearby is purchased by a developer who wants to rezone it into a high density housing complex (which is completely out of character of the area).

Wouldn't more housing help solve the problem of expensive houses in Vancouver? Unless they are building luxury condos, wouldn't this be a good thing for the city overall? Or does an increase in supply not change the price level for Vancouver? I am not sure.

That requires "taking one for the team". And discarding the NIMBY (not in my backyard) attitude ImportPsycho's got. But I don't blame him. I'd be doing the same. Mountains? Or obnoxious kids that yell in the grassy areas of a modern condo development.

I'd pick mountains every day of the week. I've already been priced out of this city. I'm sure not going to make it easier for anybody else.

make sure you actually go to the meeting.
too many people just sit idly by hoping someone else will lobby for them.

We had a old's folk home who wanted to rezone. They wanted an eight story building which blocked our view of the fraser river and richmond (still a view haha). After all was said and done, they were only allowed to build a four story building that barely obstructed anything since they were on the bottom of the hill.

To those who are experienced in this, can a case be made about re-zoning and how it will reduce your property value? If the case is strong enough, has there ever been a history of the developer doing some sort of settlement payment to the affected people?

Building condos, probably wouldn't work.
But having a high-rise block out a gorgeous existing view seems very relevant.
