Cop paid to chill at home?

I've spotted a cruiser sitting on the same block for two weeks now. It's parked in a diff position every day. When a cop is off duty dont they return the car back to the yard? What stops them from just driving home and chilling with the radio on?

Maybe they are stationed outside a particular res for a reason? Like maybe protecting someone inside?

My block has a house that is constantly frequented by the RCMP.

Sometimes marked police cars, sometimes unmarked.

Nothing better than seeing a random car parked in my cul de sac with 2 guys sitting in there for hours on end.

Call the non-emergency line, report the license plate and within 10 minutes that car will be gone, and replaced by another hours later

Police have a metric ass-ton of paperwork to do. Maybe that particular officer has found a nice quiet area to get his work done without any distractions.

The one on 41st between Victoria and Knight is a private car as mentioned above. Then there's the marked car on 57th between Main and Fraser that's always there. Sometimes is facing eastbound and last I saw it was facing wesbound and parked there for at least 2 weeks in front of a fire hydrant. It was there so long it got covered in dirt. One day I saw another cop car drop someone off to pick up the car and now it's gone. My guess is that they park these decoy cars in front of known gangster's place of residence to deter violence and other crimes. They do that a lot on the Downtown Eastside.

a few years ago there was an incident where a girl got followed home by some stalker with a hammer or something and he left a note at her house...there was a police cruiser parked in front of her house for 2 weeks straight, we'd pass by her house everyday and wonder what's going on and we finally found out what happened when the media released the details of this incident, so this might be a possibility..

I'm not sure what the rules are but we used to have quite a few police officers live on our block and a couple of them would bring their cruisers home would always see them leaving for work

don't see that anymore though with the officers that we do have

one of them does undercover work i suppose as a few times he was picked up/dropped off by an unmarked suv and he would be dressed as a homeless guy just looked hilarious
