Surprised no one has brought this up yet.

Who else caught the premiere of Terra Nova? I enjoyed watching it but the budget that they're throwing at this show may not be sustainable. The special effects aren't quite on par with movies or even some tv shows with half their budget (some pretty bad green screen effects in a couple spots and the CGI dinosaurs could be better) but otherwise it's decent.

The main problem along with the budget is the lengthy turn around time from shooting to post to delivery, which really only allows Terra Nova a 13 episode season, which means it will have to reach 7 seasons (most tv shows only need 4) before the studio can sell and market syndication rights package. That's where the studio will really make $ off a tv show.

Ratings last night scored a 3 share in the key demo, which is fairly disappointing considering the amount of dollars spent on production and marketing and the positive critic reviews prior. Finished 3rd in both the 8pm and 9pm time slots.

I actually thought that it was something along the lines of if you reconstruct the entire human timeline from scratch, knowing what you knew of past human history then you wouldn't make the same mistakes....you'd ultimately be in control of absolutely everything, to good OR bad purposes.

It's kinda like how North Korea functions. You control everything from the start and people wouldn't know any different from what only know.

Agreed, the previews looked interesting but after watching the first 3 episodes, I think I'm done with this show. Storyline has failed to intrigue me and personally I think the acting by the whole cast has been pretty subpar, especially the main lead.

I really want to like this show. There are so many possibilities they can do with the premise but they need to focus less on the love stuff and more on a proper overall plot. For a brand new show it seems to already have troubles keeping my attention.

LOL I just found this thread now? I really thought the plot of the show had something going, but so many complaints after this week. For there to be so many colonies, why does it always seem like there's only less than 10 soldiers? I'll let that slide, but if that Taylor is so tough surviving there and such, on opening episode, he should have sacrificed a bunch of his men and took down the sixers while they were trading and just have the doc heal his own team after since it seems like only medicine has gone Star Trek. So... let's recap what we have potentially for this show:

-No human antagonist that you can take seriously as sixers aren't doing gorilla warfare.
-Pathogens that can be cured in less than a few hours
-Dinosaurs that can't be killed by military grade weapons from the future, but can be controlled with science

Even if those 3 things ended up powering up and doing harm, it's not really going to be interesting for a show of this scale. They need to man up those symbols to be alien of origin and mix in some Ancient Aliens into the storyline. That's the only thing that can save this show from a one season hit. I can't believe how fast the show has degraded from the premier. And they go on about how they can start over and yada yada, but have they already forgotten that there's going to be an extinction level event that wipes out all the dinosaurs? They might as well do that as a season finale since I doubt there's going to be a season 2.

Can't wait for The Walking Dead season 2 to start. Although they too made the mistake of introducting the idea of being able to camoflage themselves with the dead in season 1, I will forgive them for not always going into camo mode.

I don't know what you guys don't seem to understand.
But Terra Nova isn't at war with the Sixxers.

The Sixxers seem to be colonists that have left. Yes, they took a bunch of crap with them, but it seems quite reasonable that by leaving the compound, Taylor would consider that they would just die off out there. The spy isn't really doing sabotage, just intel leaks.

So far, the Sixxers just seem a bit dull to me. And it's definitely Star Trek level military portrayal, like the writers and director has no clue how to show a military compound. I mean, individual homes for a colony that small?
I was hoping this series would make it pretty raw and gritty. This is more fake than Stargate, at least the military organization is plausible there.

At this point cancellation or renewal for Terra Nova is a toss up. The ratings haven't been great and have been getting worse every week. The ratings for their season finale was a series low, which is concerning especially given that no other first run episodes where going up against it as all the other networks are already in reruns for the holiday hiatus.

Fox will have to wait and see how the ratings for Alcatraz and Touch do when they launch to see what shows they would want to bring back next season.

I've been doing nothing but bad mouthing this show for season one, and you know what? Season finale somewhat makes up for it. Essentially you could just watch the season premier and then the finale back to back and it would be a decent 4 hour show. All that crap that happened in between was unnecessary and boring. I actually can't wait till season 2 as there's actually some stuff you want to look foward to. Hopefully they'll go more LOST style if they don't get canned.

That's a shame. They had a good premise behind the series; they simply lacked decent writers capable of making it into an intriguing series worth watching. Hopefully someone will pick it up and turn it into something it was meant to be.
