New gender option on Australian passports
Many want governments to do away with gender on all ID
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Australia is adding a third option under gender on passports: indeterminate. Some people want to see the Canadian government do the same thing.
SFU Sociology Associate Professor Ann Travers says the Australian government is recognizing the traditional two sex system is flawed. "For a western government to acknowledge that sex is more complicated than male and female is such a step." But she says it's not perfect.
Travers worries about transgendered people from Australia who might get a hard time in more conservative countries is their sex is listed as indeterminate. That's why she wants to see birth certificates, drivers licences and passports do away with sex altogether.
She hopes that will happen by the time her young kids are her age.

Fuck the politically correct movement, this stuff is out of hand to a crazy level these days. Is it really that hard to determine gender? On your passport, gender is not how you FEEL, it is not how you DRESS, it is not even whether you have tits (implants or otherwise)... it is simply do you have a penis or a vagina?

Having indeterminate will do nothing more than make it easier for those who want to steal and/or fake IDs for a variety of purposes. Just you wait; every nation that passes this on its passports will suddenly have a great deal more "random checks" at British and Amurrican borders.

If whether a person is physically male or female is a critical factor in identification for a security screener then the system is fundamentally flawed.

Oh okay..
So an individual born a man, but who:
Mentally identifies female,
identifies using a female name,
dresses in exclusively female clothing,
is undergoing hormone therapy,
and has underwent extensive cosmetic surgery to physically transition from male to female, but has not had their penis turned inside out is still more male than female?
Government has no more right to define an individuals sex than they do religion or sexual preference, it's subjective and more complicated than what you have dangling between your legs. Extending further rights to the transgender community are equally as important as to the gay and lesbian community, it's the role of the developed world to set an example of acceptance for less socially enlightened nations.

Why not make the gender optional? Obviously it does slightly help with security (for names that can be used both ways, that can nearly cut the number of people with the same name in half), so if you want to keep things simple, keep it on there.
If you want to have it left out, have a special comment there (I don't think they would want to leave a blank space on ID) and be prepared for an extra check or two when your ID gets run.

Or instead:
M -> F
F -> M
for transgender in progress?

What you're referring to is sex, not gender. Gender is exactly all those things that you listed. Sex is the physiological and biological aspect of one's body. (i.e.: your genitals) Sociology 100.
Seems like the author of the article is also using the two interchangeably.
My British and Canadian passports indicate sex, not gender. Why does Australia say gender?
Im sorry this kinda off topic:
Ann travers is my prof and shes a lesbo. How does she have kids??!

as for this issue i think it would be ridiculous to allow someone to opt whatever they wish on their passport on indicating ones sex
as for indicating ones gender? i dont see why that would be on a passport anyhow

to add-sex never changes (it is biological). whereas gender roles may vary culture to culture.

also to add: sex can sometimes be ambiguous from birth and not corrected, which is why indeterminate could be proposed.

a hemaphrodite? yes, it could be proposed, but intersex would be a much better option imo. its not "inderminate" if we know what it is.

In the bible maybe, not not everyone has to live by the bible. You are free to as you wish, but leave it at that. And the government should leave it at that as well, which is why this change is probably a good one.

I somewhat see their point but this is mostly a :seriously:
Just either don't have it on ID or have M/F/MF or something.
There's too many variations to get on there. Male to female post-op. Female to male pre-op. What about crossdressers? What if you have both sets of junk?
Does it matter? Just put whichever sex you identify with on your fucking passport and be done with it. Yes, that narrows it down into two categories but there's a reason people get sex changes...because they identify with one sex more than the other.
